I'm sorry. Being incarcerated will change anyone some for the better and some for the worse. Six years is a long time to try to keep a relationship healthy and strong when one person is incarcerated.

Like you said though, sounds like maybe there's been lack of love and affection for a while. Being strong enough to know how you want to be treated is really important so while you're still hurting, you are treating yourself with respect by being able to step away.

Thank you and that’s what I keep telling myself is to put myself first. I’ve tried to talk to him multiple times telling that I just want to be loved and showed affection and he bypassed it Every time or made me problem. I refuse to beg someone to be with me and I’m surely not about to constantly try to tell him how I want to be treated. It was def not a healthy relationship. It just breaks my heart, we have kids and all.

Yeah it is like mourning a loss for sure. And sad for your family. Your kids deserve happy, healthy parents so maybe with time it can be that.

It's sad that actually happened to you. But I personally feel like prison changes people simply because they have to act hard in there just not to get beat up or nothing but that shouldn't change the feelings he has for you. Also, the time apart for so long could play a part. but one things about them boys they always come back when they realize they messed up but you'll move on and find so much better!

Prison can be a really bad place and change who a person is..... They can come out with PTSD

And sadly he came out during a terrible pandemic..... The world must seem pretty scar

I doubt right now he feels like he can take care of himself let alone another person.......

First, we must love and appreciate ourselves and not look to others to fill the need we have for being important, valuable, loved, etc. We must know we are enough inside of our own heads. This man sounds like he has never been a giver of affection. Perhaps he can't. Perhaps what you want from him is not possible. Prison makes people learn to hide their emotions and actually not have emotions for self protection. It is natural to feel loss, sad, upset that the person you made kids with has turned out to be not a good life partner. Our own inner wisdom changes with time also so the person he was before prison might have been okay for you, you maybe were okay having less of a relationship than you wanted affection and emotions wise. Now you are growing and knowing yourself more. We often love people who are difficult or unhappy or problem riddled. We can love them from afar as we make changes in our own hearts and minds and life to move forward to our highest calling. As long as we cling to the old which doesn't serve us well, we stifle our own happiness and contentedness with our lives.
