He is not your husband, he is your BF. I dont think you can expect him to take care of your finances..

If he puts his income on the forms, chances are you won't even receive a disability pension. The government expects workers to assume responsibility for their romantic partners. In fact, the amount he can earn without you losing your pension is quite low.

I agree with Aronia, something like that is really not his responsibility.

You really shouldnt ever put so much reliance on someone else, because they may not always be around. If you two were to break up, you would need to be capable of some form of independence. Might as well start practicing now.

My mother was a social worker for thirty years and now runs the poor relief fund for our local municipality. Please be careful with what you are doing. If you sincerely need that disability check, you do not want to lose it by not reporting the entire household income.
And yes, his income will lower your qualifying level.
At least this is how it works in the U.S.

Why do you NEED to live with him?

I think that you'd be better off asking advice from others in Australia, as this is an international forum. I know that strict disability doesn't depend on anyone else but yourself, but of course that is in the USA. (I am referring to SSDI.) I have no idea what it's like where you live. Other forms of public assistance do require disclosure of all types of "income" or support.

May I ask: What IS your disability, that you're absolutely not able to work, do SOMETHING for money?

Koolman: in Australia if somebody who is claiming disability wants to live with a partner, they need to let the government know how much their partner earns every fortnight. If the amount is over the threshold or if they forget to report the partner's wages, the person on disability can lose their disability pension as the government assumes that their partner can pay for their bills. The threshold is quite low, so unless her partner is not doing well financially and is on a minimum wage, he will then be expected to provide for her financially. Also, if he is living with a person on disability, the government is more likely to audit him, especially if he is fudging his taxes and claims a lower income than other people in his industry.

emily: I don't know what your disability is, but sounds like a lot less aggravation, than filling out all these forms only to be declined and your BF possibly audited, to just get a part-time job or start a part-time business that you can do from home!
