So, DON'T MOVE IN WITH HIM!
You've already admitted that its an issue. You've already said that you had alcoholic parents. WHY OH WHY are you putting up with this crap? Why don't you feel better about yourself to say that you deserve a man who doesn't put a damn bottle ahead of you? (YES, he's putting the bottle ahead of you.)
Your reply to my post indicated that he would quit....TOMORROW. Well, the funny thing is that tomorrow never actually comes. That is, there is always a tomorrow. Don't buy it when he says he'll stop drinking when you two have kids. Uhm, do you understand what this really means? It means that yes, he cares about drinking more than he cares about you. He would SUPPOSEDLY care about his kids enough to stop drinking for them, but he wouldn't stop for you.
No offense, but you know what you're walking into because you were raised in the same environment. You don't want to heed the advice of anyone here. So really, why are you posting? (I realize you left the drinking part out because you knew everyone would say to leave him, just as everyone said the same in my post, that leaving the alcoholic was the best think I ever could have done.)
I think you need to get into therapy and deal with your own issues and possibly Alanon.
Things do not tick me off on regular basis. I am also used to living in close proximity to other people in spaces, so i know the etiquette.
If it feels like you shouldnt do it, definitely dont do it.
If it feels uncomfortable, you are picking up on things that you have not consciously processed yet. Your focus are your studies and if things go wrong, it is a huge problem to move.
You are so smart!!! Good job.
Smh
I didnt read anywhere that your boyfriend is an alcoholic. Muct be in another post. Alcoholism is a tough disease to combat and tough for a mate or family memeber or friend to have to deal with. My father was an alcoholic.
However , its not unheard of for people to quit drinking and stay sober. I know plenty of people who are alcoholics and have been sober for 20+ years.
And feep free to post anything you want here whether you follow the advice of the other human beings , just regular ppl like you and me, on here or not. There is no rule that says you cant post unless you take advice and follow it.
I think your gut insticts are probably right. I agree that I wouldnt move in with him either at this point and alanon isnt such a bad idea either. If you have only been together for 6 months and already youre having significant issues are you sure you should be with him at all? And I agree with the comment u should be focusing your energy and mind on school. That is your future for sure. My ex husband and my relatinship destroyed my attempt to go to college when I should have been and subsequently my life after that * too much detail to get into and its all in my journals* dont let this relationship destroy your education and future.
Good luck
Moving in, marrying and creating a family with someone comes with a lot of stress. If the relationship is not solid (and dealing with an addition puts your relationship at risk) choicing any of the above changes will create turmoil with a bad outcome.
Let your bf work on his issues separately. He needs to be a strong man alone before including you in it. Improve yourself, like you are, by finishing school and what not. If your relationship is meant to be it will be. Do. It try to force it to happen before it's ready.
