In my case with stbxh, yes we are very close friends and don't see any reason that should ever change.
My hubby and his ex were friends. They have two children together. If we ignore her and let her have her way, it is easier for us....however, she doesn't have control over hubby that she wanted.....she wanted that control as what a husband would give her...but, not in her bed.
He had to be reminded he has a new wife now, and she had a new husband, so they needed to lean on their current spouses. Only deal with the kids together.
His exwife and I got a long until her baby got mad and three a tantrum.....he was 20 when he threw this hissy fit and I stood up to him calling me names and standing up for him trying to not break up my marrage. It was rough there for awhile.
But, because of this type of drama.....not a good thing to stay good friends. Just friends enough to do what is good for the kids.
And if there are no kids....that would depend on the people too and how it would effect their future relationships.
I have kept in touch with a few boyfriends, but I set boundaries of how friendly we can be
So to answer your question....I guess it all just depends on the people involved. With one of my exes we automatically stopped sleeping together and spoke at least once a week and always tried to be there for each other. Every ex is different. If you care enough about the person you'll make the effort.
Stbxh and I have always been drama free, we don't deal with drama BS and the same goes for my partner and I. I'm in a LDR with my partner but stbxh and I still live together as friends for the time being until everything is settled and I can move to be with partner. Stbxh knows about my partner, he knows about stbxh and there are no issues or drama at all with anything.
But I personnally cannot.
I can be civil to him, but that's it. I really don't like him anymore.
There are still "limits" to our closeness (she's an amazing kisser, but it appears there's no sensation in her from the neck down), and I find this only partially fulfilling, which annoys me.
I try to move on, but there's something about this woman...an allure...a soft silkiness and gentleness that no one else seems to possess...
