For a while my husband and I were living with my parents, and we each cooked one day of the week. That way, everyone can make their own food and nobody is left having to cook all the time. I can't understand why your parents are so opposed to you helping cook! Have they tried the food that you've cooked? Maybe your parents would be willing to watch a DVD like "Forks Over Knives" or "Food Inc." with you. If not, try to explain that you are twenty-two years old and would like to feel better about growing up with your parents. Make cold foods like a big salad with tuna fish or grilled chicken on top so that your dad can't complain about the gas bill. Try to talk to your parents about WHY they are opposed to you trying to be a healthy eater. Are they jealous since they lack the motivation to try themselves? Are you already very thin? Something is going on here and it sounds unfair to you, a young girl, who is trying to stay healthy. I hope this helps.
I'm 5 feet and 3 inches and weight around 145 lbs, which means I'm slightly overweight. I'm actually more concern with my overall health rather than being skinny. In 9th grade I weighed around 195 lbs; I ate a lot of refined grains like greasy pizza, cookies, and white breads and drank a lot sugary drinks such as Snapple drinks and soda. I had one simple motivation, and it wasn't to lose weight; I just wanted to keep up with the rest of girls in my gym class. I put in the extra work during gym time while the other girls couldn't care less. I manage to drop 40 lbs during that year and weight in 150 lbs. Even though I was still was on an unhealthy diet because of my mother my goal and determination superseded this obstacle. I noticed that the more health conscious I became and started to take care of myself the more insults my mother threw at me. I that I need to stop losing weight otherwise I won't have a fat booty. Mind you, in the black community a woman with big rump is as attractive. This is one the reason why black women ranked the highest on obesity. I remember one incident were I was working out outside my back yard sweating up a storm. I was is the zone until my mother interrupted me. She said one insult to me in Creole, laughed about it, and went back inside. It really threw me off : (
You are not alone in the booty category! Many men in the white community prefer this as well. Don't worry about losing your curves if you become a healthier person. Think Jennifer Hudson. She was always curvy and beautiful but now she is healthy. Beyonce. Kim Kardashion. All of these women are beautiful and healthy with booties. Your mom sounds slightly scared of what you are capable of achieving. I hope things get easier for you. You are your own person. I would offer to cook for your family so that you are in control. If they do not like ethnic foods, cook what they like, but make it healthy. Best of luck girl.
