Just my opinion, but if the AMA, was sooooooo concerned about 1 in 7, or 47 million people being uninsured, why haven't they come up with this proposal before? Wanna know why? Some canidate is starting to get in their back pocket where the wallet is. That's why, and they figure they had better come up with some plan to keep da' money. If you want to know the basis of their proposal, in my humble opinion, "it's all about the money, or they would have been concerned about it years ago." Believe me, this has been an ongoing problem with people not being able to afford a dr. or hospital, it was like this in the 70's, 80's. 90's. But canidates like Edwards, Obama, Hillary, are talking about medical reform and insurance, dr.'s, hospitals, are running scared. The writing is on the wall. They figure they better come up with a PLAN, and it all sounds like they are so concerned... BS. They are concerned more of how they are going to be paid....This is just my humble opinion of course. I think their plan is more complicated and it helps them out, not us.... Read their proposal.... I am a newbie, maybe I should keep my big mouth shut!!! I have been dealing with dr.s--insurance companies all my life and argh. They have had this coming. They have sucked the American peeps dry.

I haven't read this website yet, but I want to voice my opinion about the length of time it can and often take for people to get SSI when the REALLY need it.
I have a friend who has been waiting over 2 years. She has been living with an abusive friend because she has no where else to go.
I would like a national study done on how many SSI applicants die or their conditions worsen considerably, in the process of waiting for SSI/SSDI approval.

This could be construed as an indirect, or not-so-indirect, problem of providing adequate health care, to some of the people who need it most.

Jontu: Now that study would be fascinating. You always hear about people on disability who are fit to work, and never about people in need who have to go without. I think we need a clear picture of both groups to make any kind of useful decisions about how to repair the disability system.

You are right on target re SS disability. I've been waiting two years and no hearing date yet. When I became too ill to continue working, I paid cobra to extend my group coverage 18 months while I desperately tried to find help in the medical community so that I could return to work. When my insurance ran out I applied for Medicaid and was denied. At the time I lost my insurance I was on 8 Rxs, and then there were none. None of mine were available in generic form Now I have two older drugs. One is on the $4 list. The other is a generic but $45. I can no longer afford to see doctors. The neurologist I was seeing charges $650 per office visit. Just an example. Our entire medical system is broken.

I'm fortunate that I've had family support, but every day I think about the many who don't have any kind of support at all. I can't help wondering how many commit suicide before their hearings are set.

I went to that web site, its a petition and the AMA wants people to sign it.. Read the fine print on the website where it says that the AMA is wanting to pass a federal law EVERYONE has to have insurance regardless if they can afford it or not. They want this done so the United States does not have universal health coverage, because if we did then there would be no use for health insurance companies and they along with the AMA would be outta business. It all boils down to MONEY! He who has the gold makes the rules.

I looked at the page. I need insurance what I have now is our county help plan, it covers office visits, labs and x-rays with a copay. Scripts are another thing, I am on 3 different eye drops because of Glaucoma which it doesn't cover, I also have to get Requip from the pharmacial company because that isn't covered, and 6 scripts are covered with a copay. I have applied for my SSDI and am waiting for a hearing, my health continues to go down hill. I have applied 2 times for Medicaid only to be denied.

It isn't fair that those of us who need can't get. And those who don't really need it get it.

Health care costs are so high if is impossible for those of us who don't have it to go to the doctors. I need surgery on my eye right now and can't have it because my husband and I can't afford it.

The only people that getting insurance right now is the illegals I think we should get rid of them.

Its not just the illegals getting the insurance. The insurance companies have so many loop holes that those of us who really need the extra edge are unable to get it.

Right, and it's a shame that people like us can't get what we need. For instance, I have health insurance but it only pays a portion of my cancer treatments or any other medical problem I have. My husband makes more then 25 thousand dollars a year so I am not elgible for any state aid, federal government aid or any other kind of aid. Thus my medical bills are mounting. Bills I can not pay, so I will probably have to stop going to doctors. Does the AMA care? Hell no! Nor does any other agency. Go figure!

Many illegals cross our borders to get the freebies we or I should say freebies we pay for through our tax dollars, and OUR GOVERNMENT gives to them, but illegals aren't the only ones. Many Americans are in dire need of medical care, including myself, but we can not get it. Yet on the other hand there are Americans getting everything for free including medical care, food stamps, etc...,and they really don't need to receive anything. Many of them probably never worked a day in their life either, yet they get what they need for free. They are just to lazy to support themselves and prefer to sponge off of poor folks suffering and struggling to get by day after day.
Where's the AMA when some soldier comes home and kills himself because he can't get the proper medical care he needs? Where's the AMA when some elderly person can not afford their medication? And where in the hell is the government when Americans like us need medical care but can not get it, or can not get the proper medical care we need because some insurance company cancels you or refuses to pay all the bills?
Yet our country sends trillions of dollars in aid, food, medical supplies, etc.. to some place in Africa, or the middle east to people who hate Americans and would just as soon see us dead, but yet they take what our government offers them..
It's sickening that Bush can send medicine to Africa for Aids, yet my neighbor down the street can not afford her medication, and I bet Bush ain't gonna give her medicine for free! Nor me, nor you either who is reading this.
