Does anyone have an opinion on Pacific Natural spirulina? I know, Mak, that you like Earthrise, but the place I get my vitamins has this brand, and it would be easier to order all at once.
BTW, I made an awesome Vitamix smoothie today. 1/2 banana, some frozen rasberries, goat milk yogurt (yes, I've agreed to eat animal products to balance my ph. Only this yogurt and some eggs) and a package of green super foods that my health food store owner let me try as a sample. And ice cubes of course. It tasted like a treat, not a health food thing. I would like to replace the yogurt with a vegan option if I have this often. Soy milk is too processed. Maybe water? Juice is too glycemic.
I';m going to try mousse tongiht. My blender just couldn't cut it. I had too many av chunks.
i make my own soymilk. it's basically ground up soybeans with water, then strain off the pulp, no processing or added chemicals.
as far as the Pacific Natural spirulina, get it and try it. It should taste nice and fresh and not have any bad taste to it, like from contaminants. And if it's cheaper, and tastes good, let me know. Earthrise is pretty expensive!
I googled pacific natural spirulina and nothing came up with that brand name. so I'm not sure what brand it is. Pacific Natural Foods doesn't show spirulina on their website.
Thanks for checking. The company I order from is the one my homeopath recommended . I take Biotics vitamins and herbalist alchemist milk thistle, which I get from them.
I believe that the Pacific Natural spirulina refers to the spirulina being "Natural and that it comes from an Island in the Pacific from the depths of the Pacific Ocean, rather than it being the name brand of the product if that helps
I have some Biotics products, I've heard of them. Probably from my chiropractor, he carries several lines of supplements. There are some spirulinas that come from Hawaii, which is probably what you're referring to. Like I said, if it's good, please let me know.
That's annoying. I wrote a reply and it disappeared. Anyway, did anyone order the spirulina at Nuts.com? Organic, grown in human-made lakes, half the price of earthrise. I don't know what good spirulina is supposed to taste like, so I'm not the best person to test this. But I may buy some. I have to compare with the other place.
I just got hte info about the Spirulina from the first place. YOu werre right, Hepless, it comes from the Pacific. It costs $50/lb, free shipping. This is more than Earthrise. Here's there info. Does anyone think it's worth the extra money? Maybe I could take less of it because it's richer?
Spirulina Pacifica 16 oz
Product: # CY02
Manufactured by: Nutrex Incorporated
The All Natural Hawaiian Spirulina Advantage:
Pesticide Free/Herbicide Free/Kosher - Hawaiian Spirulina Pacifica is the finest, most nutrient rich Spirulina in the world. The levels of key nutrients in our Spirulina are much higher than in any competing product. Also, Hawaiian Spirulina Pacifica is grown in a pristine environment to ensure an ultra pure product.
Unique Spirulina Pacifica Strain Evolved in Hawaiian Sun - Kona, Hawaii is the sunniest coastal location in the United States. Hawaii's intense sunshine promotes an abundance of phytonutrients. Thousands of generations of Spirulina in Hawaii have given birth to a unique, beta carotene-rich strain known as Spirulina Pacifica.
Ocean Source Mineral and Trace Elements - We bring ultra-pure ocean water up from a depth of 2,000 feet and feed it directly into our ponds. This vital resource provides a rich mixture of calcium, magnesium, and trace elements - 92 different minerals in all.
Patented Ocean-Chill Drying - Because oxygen damages sensitive antioxidant nutrients like beta carotene, we developed and patented a new drying process just for Spirulina. Ocean Chill Drying™ assures a superior carotene profile, reducing by 80% the losses normally associated with drying.
Glass Packaging - We package our Spirulina in glass, with an oxygen absorber in every bottle and metal caps to prevent oxidation of key nutrients. Plastic costs less, but it readily leaks oxygen and does not preserve the nutrients as well as our amber glass bottles.

wow, that is a lot cheaper, even with shipping. i think i looked at it once before but thought it was too cheap to be any good. Maybe I'll get a pound and check it out. thanks, i was just lamenting how much Earthrise costs.

I do appreciate the dark amber glass jars from Earthrise for keeping nutrients in and also a freshness packet to keep moisture out.

Also the nutritional information at nuts.com is actually based on 1 oz, or 9-10 tsp of spirulina. They say a serving is 1 tsp. on the right, and 1 oz under nutritional information.
ok., my post is not here. I checked at iherb. The only spirulina for under $30 a pound is Starwest Botanicals, it's about $18 a pound, and it's produced in CHINA. I sent an email to nuts.com asking the source of their spirulina.
While I'm waiting for Mak to hear back from Nuts.com, I bought a bottle of the Pacific kind. It's actually cheaper at Whole Foods, which makes me wonder if I'm being ripped off on other things. I got 5 oz. for $15. They say the dose is 1 tsp., which I've had the last 3 days in a row. My digestion is much better. Less gas by far! (My family is grateful!) It's very dark green but has the same swampy taste I remember from taking spirulina in the past. Mak, you'll need to be the taste tester if you can tell the difference between brands. I sure can't!

says that Pacific Natural got poor ratings on their soy milk.
