Anyone have a recommendation for a juicing book? I need a book on juicing. One that has recipes and the benefits of the veggies and or fruits used. Dr. said I'm starving so I need to juice to get my nutrition, or most of it any way. Thanx in advance.
Gerson has good juicing information, basically carrot and green apple. Would be enough of a boost for some added nutrition with those two alone, I like to add celery, beets, ginger, fresh tumeric(if you can find it), greens and lemons. Not sure of any books per say, but there are several Facebook pages on juicing with good info.
You can search the books, and choose the one you want.
Juicing is a great way to get nutrition fast.
I'd recommend some green juice every day, and a mixture of carrot, green or tart apple, beet and celery. If you need to watch salt, go easy on the celery. My recipe is equal amounts of carrots and apples, 1/2 as much beet and celery.
It depends on the juicer too. The best juicers are twin gear, and cost about $4-500 or more.
I would highly recommend that you get some spirulina and chlorella and make smoothies.
I use the juice I make, add banana, spinach or baby kale, some berries, and 1 T of chlorella and 2T of spirulina. If your energy is down, it will pick you up quickly. Don't worry about oxidation, just make what you can drink and drink it. I make 2 days at a time in the blender and then put into glass jar and refrigerate the one I don't drink.
There are things that don't juice all that well. Like mangoes and avocadoes.
Green drinks are healers. Fruit juices are body cleansers. Vegetable juices are health restorers. use lots of color. I have a book that gives juices and herbs for different conditions, but it's out of print. Wow, it's not out of print, I just found it on Amazon.
I juice every day and have made it very simple. I juice with a masticating juicer (Omega) and just do whatever greens I have in the house, usually kale, cilantro, spinach, cabbage etc... avocado.. the tip is to add a bit of jalapeno and lemon and the MUST is green apples,, I also use pineapple, a bit higher on the glycemic index.
Also beets and pears,, are delish
apples and carrots
oranges and grapefruit with some lemon.. yummy
I find this is the easiest for me ... play around ,, if you add green apple can't go wrong.
And like Mak says ,, lots of free stuff. I bought juice books and don't like the recipes
Oh good Mak ,, will take a look at that book.
I also have gotten some good juice recipes from the guy who did "Sick Fat and tired of it" something like that. He has grown and does only this now in his life. Promote juicing and love Kris Carr.....
I was on Amazon yesterday looking for a new book.. hmmmm. want to jazz things up
Good luck
Thanx for all your tidbits of info and book recommendations. I'm getting my blender today and can't wait to get started. I'll keep you posted and maybe I'll have some faves of my own to share.
Blender? OK, are you talking about juicing or blending? Or both?
The proofreader. LOL
Grapefruit, orange and lemon juice is a great combination for losing weight. I remember a diet back in the 70's that consisted of these three foods. I wouldn't recommend doing anything that drastic. We need to take in a good variety of vegetables and fruits.
While juicing is good for quick nutrients, there's no telling what nutrients attach to the fiber and are discarded, so for me, juicing is an option but not for the long run. I think blending is a much better choice. It breaks everything down into a very absorbable size.
I'm talking both. Someone gave me a good blender, a Blendtek and I have a Jack LaLanne power juicer, that I forgot I had. Blaming that on high ammonia levels..lol anyway. I need to juice some to get the nutrients to my body quicker. I also found a book I had "The Big Book of Juices and Smoothies" by Natalie Savona. I'm attributing forgetting I had that to high ammonia levels too. They have gone down since I last messaged you. I don't know if you are familiar with her, but her book is informative as to what veggies and fruits are good for what ailment, with a nutrient chart and a juice course for say a detox week, or immune power week, energy also. It looks pretty good.
My body told me last summer that I was starving. Alarm bells. Our liver disease can get to a point where we really need to get condensed nutrients. I prefer to get nutrition from food vs supps but could not possibly eat enough food to get requirements met w/o juicing, blending etc.
I've been an exercise fiend to promote physical health & battle depression. Of course, it raised my nutrient & calorie needs.
This group has been a great resource for me. So glad you are here, too!
