Does anyone know if it's possible to get these test in the U.S.? They're done in Europe instead of biopsies. U.S. insurance companies won't pay for them (surprise) but I'm wondering if it's possible to get them anyway and how much they cost. The two tests are The FibroTest and ActiTest .
I haven't gotten a biopsy so I have no idea how my liver actually is. I'd love to find out without the invasiveness of a biopsy.
I have heard that the reading from a biopsy is about 70 accurate--or 'up to 30% inaccuracy' correct me if I am wrong. I opted out of a biopsy right now. If they take three samplings, that is a lot! That is a lot of stress on the liver too. I am CC, but my doc did not re-assure me of pain etc. I am a wimp. But he did say I was not end-stage and all other blood work was normal.
I don't know how long you have known, but I just found out in Nov my type etc. I think docs are scared not to do the 'SOC' tx. Keep us posted. It helps me and others to make decisions.
@brigid....oh yes....I agree with you...sometimes you HAVE to look into western medicine.....if you are faced with a dire situation to which holistic has no other role other than to compliment western meds then you do what you must do to help yourself. I think my biggest complaint with the western docs is they dont endorse anything other than MY WAY Or the HIGHWAY.....CAM doctors always look to alternatives (at least mine have)....except one...my doc that I used to go to for ozone and other IV drips...when I questioned him about the ldn he said in his practice there are no prescription meds...now he is an MD and could have prescribed it no problemo...I think that type of behavior is going to the extreme...considering that the ldn is written off label (not the dose that naltrexone is usually prescribed).....and it is so minute....so he is rather closed minded and just as bad as the western doc that says if you don't do TX well your on a death wish, without giving you any options or suggestions on how to pamper your liver or nuture yourself...so there are crumb buns on both sides of the aisle.
