I did the fibro test and my insurance did cover it..bc/bs....that is the blood test...never did the actiTest or the fibrosure test.

I'm so glad to know this. Joe or Gooser, do you happen to know the code for this test to put on the lab slip? My PCP knows nothing about HepC and will probably only order this test if I can walk him through the process.

YUP mine said fibrosure as well....its seperate and apart from your everyday bloodwork...it actually came in its own little dialogue box on the request slip.

Joe...the fibrosure test is odd....had my gastro scratching his head and arse....mine was f-2-f4 which could mean anything from fibrosis to cirrhosis....from what I gathered and I think Ive said it here before, this test is more accurate when (God forbid) your knocking on heavens door) or not in much trouble at all...the grey area is where it isn't difinitive....and I had my hepatologist look at it (when I still had one) and of course he was pro chrrhosis....however, my hemotologist (who does my phlebotomies) says that a biopsy only takes a segment from here or there and might just miss a place that might be troublesome...it would be interesting to see how one weighs in over the other..I know BX is considered the golden standard...but i believe that NEW test that is not invasive gives a much better picture....but I think those machines are only in limited cities across the usa.
I sweated the results from my test too...now I don't even give thought to them...because I wasnt going to do the tx anyhow there is no sense in me dwelling on it!

Joe, Sorry to hear about your results, though now it seems like they might not mean anything. I heard the same thing about biopsies -- that they can miss a spot. However, they same to take tissue from at least 3 places, which gives them a more accurate picture. I'm interested to hear if that confirms or disagrees with your blood test.

BTW, How long have you all had this? I'm not sure how long it takes to scar the liver. I've had it almost 30 years. I also had an acute episode of jaundice/liver inflammation, which put me in the hospital for over a week and took a year to recover from. (This was almost ten years after I got Hep C)Conventional drs blamed it on the Chinese herbs I was taking, which may or may not have been true. They couldn't find any other cause for it though. I'm sure that din't help my liver any.

Also, does anyone know -- once there is chirosis, can the liver heal itself if we clear the virus?

Hum....is sonogram like an ultrasound? I know the ultrasound picks up on nodules and the like..but the test I was talking about that few medical facilities in the USA have at their disposal give a very accurate view of the liver...and yes those results were compared to the golden standard of BX and the machine gave far better results over all as you could measure and decipher more of the liver rather than taking a few samples from this lobe and that. @ Brigid, the website is interesting and maybe the writer gets a kick back from somewhere....but he does compare other sources of the listings of ingredients in the Hep Tech protocol and lots of other interesting stuff....there is alot to digest in his blog...I don't see him trying to sell any books or anything, when many others have done so...I think he might just have done mucho research like all of us and just documented it. I myself was very interested in what he had to say about the ldn (which Im on)...because there aren't many of us with the hcv going this route....I think I am the only one here (there was another gal that went to berksons clinic and last we heard from her she was great)! Perhaps she felt so good she decided to leave DS...at least thats what I hope the story is.....most of the stuff on the blog isn't new information..just all in one site....its good reading and somewhat of a refresher course for me.

LDN, is low dose naltrexone. It's a prescription drug that in low doses, much lower than what is used normally for what naltrexone is normally prescribed for, is found to help with other situations, such as viral contamination.

@brigid.....in no way am I pushing the ldn....it is just another quasi treatment...seeing as Ive been through most that are out there in my quest to feel better. The reason that I bring ldn up on this particular site is it is nothing like TX and is rather an alternative, like ozone and the such. I have found that most western doctors pooh pooh it, so to me, that sends a signal that it must be something good! lol It is usually prescribed by CAM doctors and as I posted before even Mercola recommends it...

Dr. Berkson has had great success with ldn added to his protocol...there are many articles about Berkson online....while it isn't a cure, I think I can live a long and healthy life with this virus if I don't let it get me down...emotions play such a big role in how our cells react...

I'm really glad you did mention it. I want to hear about anything that can help. When my cat was diagnosed with cancer, my holistic vet suggested chemo over homeopathy. When I asked why, she said that being holistic means being open to anything that might help. I think it's the same thing here. If we discount anything "conventional", we're being just as closed minded as some of the people who dismiss natural remedies. I'm going to read up on it. Thanks.
