This seems to be another thing that everyone says is easy but all I do is waste the eggs. I've tried 3 different recipes, including Martha Stewart's, and a whole bunch of dyes -- beet, kale, spinach, turmeric. All I ever got was a slight tint that made the white eggs look like I'd bought colored eggs. A friend of mine said maybe organic eggs have different shells that don't absorp. Any thoughts? Last year we put stickers and health food treats inside the Silly Putty plastic eggs and hid those. But I'm not a fan of plastic.
I just got into the fridge for a snack - thought I saw Easter eggs - it was lemons, limes and tangelos in a box. Now there's a thought! LOL Hide fruit!
We found sidewalk chalk shaped as eggs. Also, my husband bought a kit of regular (toxic) dye a few years ago but I wouldn't use it. Since none of us fancied the onion smell, we blew the eggs out of the shells and scrambled them. Now we can paint the empty shells and not waste eggs or worry about the kids eating the dye. Maybe next year I'll try the onion idea.
Thanx Mak
