Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), is an acquired immune-mediated inflammatory disorder of the peripheral nervous system (i.e. not the brain or spinal cord). It is suggested that it is an autoimmune disease, in which the sufferer's immune system is triggered into damaging the nerve covering. Many cases developed in people who received the 1976 swine flu vaccine.

Muscle Fatigue: Does it ever go away?

I initially got GBS  2 and a half years ago after GI issues from Campylobacter.  My case was on the mild side, and I regained the use of my arms and legs pretty quickly.  However, ever since then my arms and legs tire and get painful and achy very easily.  I can only type on the computer for about 45 minutes before my arms get heavy and painful or walk/stand for about 30-45 minutes before my legs get tired and painful.  It's been over two years.  I am worried that I will never be back to normal.  Does anyone know of anyone where it took over 2 years to get rid of the muscle fatigue.  I feel like I could handle it better, even if it last another year or so, as long as I knew that it eventually will get better.  Thanks!

I had originally in 2011, a very severe case paralyzed all the way up. I recovers after months in rehab. Did ok walking and things , relapsed in 2015…(mild) and now suffer from severe leg/feet fatigue and pain. It try to do exercise several miles at least…I still get it and some days are like a bad flare up so it gets better and the. Comes back like an irritation. but I have really, really almost perfect days, but then I have really, really hard days. I guess like life and ebb and flow. Blessings and best wishes on your recovery.

I had it originally in 1993, was paralyzed and my breathing was labored and almost to the point of ventilator, luckily the treatment (Plasmapheresis) prevented that, I truly believe. It was a long recovery, I have had relapses.
Too this day I am not 100%, but the most painful was with in the first couple years as the nerves were 'waking up" as I put it in my feet and legs, hands and arms weren't as bad. From time to time even now I have that shooting pain or numbness in feet or hand, The pain lessens and is more tolerable over time, my strength and endurance got better in time just not to the level it was. Just take care of yourself, when your tired rest listen to what your body wants not what our minds think we should be able to do.
