IVIG was what really helped my body heal. I went thru this treatment on three seperate occasions just to make sure we got my immune system back on track. The down side to my illness is that I now have polyneuropathy. I have no feeling below the knees on both legs, and I have no feeling in my thumb,pointer, and middle finger on both hands. So just typing this takes a long time! I still don't have a job and my doctor will only agree to my going back to work part-time. I have been on plenty interviews but I'm sure that when people see my cane and my outward disability I'm sure that it makes a difference.
Regardless, the IVIG treatments did help! The first treatment I had a reaction to it. I was very tired and ran a fever and couldn't get warm enough. I at one point had tweleve different hospital blankets on me. It was horrible. But the next two treatments did the trick and I started to get better. I would suggest this treatment to anyone who has been diagnosed with GBS, and if it doesn't work then you can at least say that you tried.

IVIG is great for GBS,and my form CIDP.It is however very expensive.I could not function without it though.It gives me the strength to do the basic things to care for myself.Without it I would be bedridden.
I sometimes have chills and headache with it,but it's well worth the side effects.

I had 5 days of treatment of IVIG during my 8 day stay in the hospital. I was off work for two months, couldn't hardly walk through my house for for most of that time. Have had two more infusions since and will have one more this week. Hoping it's my last one. Sitting in a hospital bed for 6 hours is boring. Just started to do mild weight trainging again. Used to do yoga, ballroom dancing, bike riding, all that had to be put aside for this year. Started last March and finally feeling beter.

I was diagnosed with GBS 4 years ago. It took about 3 weeks to figure out it was GBS while I was losing the feeling in my hands, arms, legs, & feet combined with serve pain. I was administered IVIG by an in home nurse. The first treatment went ok, but the night after my second treatment I came down with a massive migrane and was admitted to the hospital. Apparently I had a bad reaction to the IVIG treatment. After being admitted to the hospital I was given plasmapherises for 7 days. After the 4th day I started to regain feeling in my extremedies. After 8 days I was released from the hospital and started 2 months of physical theraphy. I am sure everyone's bodies react differently. IVIG was just not right for mine. Plasmapherises however was very successful for my situation. Best of luck to you and your health!

I was diagnosed with GBS on July 28th, 2007. I was completey paralysed and had a trachy for a month in hospital. I had two doses of IVIG, and after the first dose was administered I began to get better and day by day began to move different body parts. I have had no side affects from this and continue to get better.
