Today's House episode diagnosed as graves. Hope more tv and other publicity to the public eye. I never heard of it till I was diagnosed.
House, one of my favorite 'love to hate' shows. Love House's character, but the errors are so obvious regarding diagnosis's I person could have an aneurysm watching sometimes. LOL

The patient was first seen at a job center, in the process of donating a million dollars. He then walked out side and down the walk and collapsed. ( symptoms #1).
During the show as they tried to figure out what was wrong with him, it turned out his wife and children had left him due to his being more involved in donating his money to worthy causes than paying attention to his family. ( symptom #2).
Eventually he had an episode of heart palpitations and high blood pressure.( Symptom 3) This happened once, and lasted for a few minutes.
Because House believes giving away money is a symptom, they do a CAT scan of his brain, with contrast ( cue to high iodine content) .
Okay.. so then he goes on to wanting to donate a kidney.. more story..then when questioned he wants to give away his second kidney. Now we know for sure something's not right.
They diagnosis his solitary hyper-functioning nodule, and do surgery to remove it.
This man was almost pudgy, and looked more like a soon to be diagnosed hypo patient . LOL. He was consistently calm and quite laid back.His hyper symptoms apparently appear separately and each lasts a total of a few minutes. He must have magic thyroid hormone that dissipates quickly. ;)
The scene after his surgery, he tells House that he will not be giving House the promised donation, because House caused the Plummer's by using the iodine contrast dye. The writer's apparently forgot he had a problem before h was admitted.
But then...they showed his surgery bandage. It seems in this magic land, they can make a teeny, tiny incision on the side of the neck and remove only the nodule. Not gonna happen folks. It's a nice idea, but not realistic.
So the public think we hyper types can be manic, and calm...giving away millions. But maybe one person out there is scheduled for a brain scan with contrast, and may ask important questions.
As to the more common depiction of hyperthyroid and the public's false view, Criminal Mind love the appearance of TED and also crazy hyper criminals. Hochners main nemesis is finally tracked down through his Tapazole prescription. ( head desk) .

Yes... second worse villain =Foyette.. that the due that takes Tapazole.
In this one Tim Curry plays the evil one, complete with TED, appearance. I suspect they used his natural appearance and had some special make up trick to cause the eyes to bulge out. He dose have a unique look, but protruded eyes are not part of it.
So there's my rant for the day. Nothing to be done about it, it's just the way things are.
It's no wonder those of us with TED are shunned and even feared at times. It's not just this show, it's a standard theme for bad guys.

Plummer's Nails are a common symptoms of hyperthyroid, and goes away as we return to a normal metabolism.

This comes in all 'strengths', and most only wonder why they keep cleaning under their finger nails. The area that is separated allows dirt to stain, and not be cleaned well.
