Thyroid Peroxidase - elevated

Hello! I am still a mystery, but basically have all the symptoms of hyperthyroid since having my son: fast heart rate, palpitations, muscle weakness, eyes bothering me/gritty- they look different, frequent bowel movements, insane hunger, jittery/tremor and hair loss.. however my TSH/t3/t4 are always normal.... however my thyroid peroxidase was elevated (it was 23 where normal range was under 9)

Can anyone tell me what this could mean? I have an apt with an endocrinologist in a few weeks...but this is all very bothersome!

Hi:

Positive TPOab basically means how inflamed your thyroid is. I would ask to get the TSI and the TRAb done to see if you test positive gor Graves' Disease.

If you need help in understanding your thyroid levels of the TSH, Free T3, and Free T4; please post them. For the symptoms you are having, your thyroid levels of the Free Ts may not be in the 'right' places for you to feel your best there at.

Most people feel their best with the Free Ts at mid ranges to the upper third ranges.

My husband had a fast heart rate, but his TSH showed the doctors he was hypothyroid. He was also retaining water, but not in the ankles where the doctors were looking. It took them 6 months to diagnose his heart failure, after he complained about shortness of breath and he had a normal EKG.

Do listen to mmz, though. Post your labs. Our experience is that you can be very miserable and still "within the normal range."

Many times our doc will tell us our thyroid levels are normal if they fall within the ranges given by the labs. For me...the ranges for my FT4 is 10.5 - 20.0 If my levels go below 16.5 I start getting hypo symptoms...if my levels reach mid level...around 15...I am extremely hypo and can not function..according to the docs...I am normal and its all in my head. Now...fortunately...I have a great doc who also has Graves...so she has a greater understanding than any endo I have had...she allows me the freedom to self medicate when needed.

As mmz mentioned...we are not always well when our docs say we are normal...thats why its so important to post your labs and ranges here...its also important to get the tests mmz mentioned because those are your thyroid hormones...Big Hugs...Kathy

Has your dr. done any tests to differentiate between Graves and post-partum thyroiditis. Both are auto-immune, and PP thyroiditis very much mimics Graves, only the symptoms are milder.
