Yes, stress definitely causes hyperthyroidism. I felt the symptoms a few years ago, when my father was hit by a car walking the intersection, he ended up in the hospital for a month or so and I took care of him every single day after work for long hours. Then, my mom had a few trips to the hospital for heart problems and then she had open heart surgery and that took a toll on me. nobody in my family from either my mom's or father's side has ever had any thyroid problem.

malbers...Im so sorry about loosing your dog. When my Hoser died it took 4 years before I even considered getting another dog. He was a member of my family for 14 years. He was in all my family photo's. I understand your grieving and stress in explaining it to your children. We had a funeral and buried him under the trees at my farm. That seemed to help the kids a bit. We covered a picture of him in clear plastic and pinned it to the tree he was buried under. The kids would go down there and sit under the tree and talk to his picture. They were much younger then. It really helped. My doc explained to me there are 2 kinds of stress. The one you feel and try to suppress ( not good for you ) and the kind you feel and let out ( much better for you ) I think if you just talk about it and let your emotions go you wont have as bad of a reaction on the graves. I am so sorry to hear about your 'mate' as thats what most dogs are to their owners...I know mine was.
I lost mine after 14 years ....approximately 3 years ago and have never had the inclination to replace her.

Im with you Debs, I will never be able to replace him and wont ever get another dog. We still have a young dog that we purchased as company for our old dog. He is just as sad as we are, crying all the time for his daddy.We rescued our old boxer years ago and are very thankful we got him and were able to provide him a good home in his senior years. He was 9yrs old. R.I.P old buddy.

I am so sorry about your dog. They are like losing a member of the family! Yes, I think stress exacerbates our symptoms for sure. I have noticed it over the years.

Stress is know to be one of the biggest causes of Grave's.My experiences have lead to it anyways. Almost 8 years ago my Husband was in a Dirt Bike accident he was in the hospital for 3 mos. He's Paralized from the waist down.Which caused me symptoms and the start of my thyroid trouble. Started getting Panic attacked a few years later, which caused me to go into Hyper from Hypo.
Last year my daughter was diagnosed with
Scoliosis fairly severe and had to get Spine Fusion done last July 31 she had 14 Verdebra done which was a living Nightmare for us both., so Stress seems like my middle name!!! I then got Grave's this year after living through that (so far). I feel less stressed now. Sorry to have a blabber fest!!
Just wanted to tell you yes stress should be avoided at all cost!!! mY Aunt and Ny cousin both have Grave's so it's possible to be Hereditary as well.

Yes I know what you mean. I also know that it jst not a dog its like family !!! I get very emotional when my dog gets ill (shes old and has some health issues) Def believe u can have stress induced episodes of graves. I notice that if i am truly stressed it takes a toll on me for days after.
