I remember getting sick when I first started my MMI. (Methimazole) Drippy and crusty nose and stuff. I let it ride it’s coarse until I was feeling better. (But mine was mild.)
The 2 things that reports and doctors will say about taking MMI. One needs to watch their White Blood Cell count and their liver enzymes while taking this medication. So take a blood test to see where you stand with those 2 things.
One needs to be more careful NOT to be exposed to germs (sick people) and also watch to see that this medication doesn’t mess with their liver.
I would make an appointment with the Endocrinologist and get those blood tests PLUS the standard T.S.H., Free T3 and Free T4. I hope you are getting your labs every 4-6 weeks to see how to adjust the dosage of the MMI. Take Care.
Update: My Endocrinologist's office told me to schedule an appointment with my primary. Long story short I'm fine.. kind of feel like it was a waste of my time because no blood work was done and besides a medicine for my cough, the doctor just told me to keep doing what I'm doing ( Drinking fluids, getting rest, tea & gargling w/ warm salt water).... But supposedly " To be on the Safe Side" I would want to be seen anytime I am sick while taking methimazole.... not sure if it really makes a difference.
You do see your Endocrinologist for labs every 4-6 weeks, don’t you? Personally, I would because you keep a close eye on how your thyroid hormones are doing and the doctor adjusts the dosage in accordance to that....so you don’t go HYPO or if you needed more for the HYPER to calm down.
If I could self-administer those tests, I would.
It’s taken one year and I am off the meds.
Hope you are feeling better.
PS If you get sick and the doctor prescribes antibiotics....be careful, THAT can upset the gut flora - it did with mine.
