I have this. It started when my mild TED problems started. It's still going on. I'm about 7 months in and is better by sleeping propped up or w 2-3 pillows under your head.

What were your mild TED symptoms? and also how often should I be having my labs checked?

I still have mild ted. Puffy eyes in the morning, somewhat dry eyes w some red veins showing. I'm still able to wear contacts tough. One eye bulges more than the other and therefore it looks a little bigger. On most days it's not very noticable w my makeup techniques.

I get my labs every 8 weeks now that I am stabilizing. And if my eyes stay the same I won't be seeing my neuro-opthamologist but once a year for tracking purposes.

The way your describing the puffy eyes sounds more like thyroid levels getting too low for your particular needs, not TED.

Hypothyroid patients have long discussions about this , and suggest all manner of causes from non-organic foods, GMO foods, chemicals in the environment, chemicals in their make-up, fillers or yes in their replacement hormone, or the standard " It's caused by the evil $ynthroid. All the while neglecting to look at their lab results correctly.. the doctor said they were all in normal range anyway...wrong.

Words that mean the same: Hypothyroidism, myxedema, swelling.

So, when you and I left off we were wondering if your lab result was a FT3 , and if it was, it suggested your FT4 was low enough now, the dose should have been reduced. But.. you still needed to get a paper copy of the labs to verify.

Your doctor was running labs at two week intervals.. that's best for now. Though it will only show the trend your levels are moving at two weeks, it does take a full four weeks to show exactly what any given dose is going to do. but at first when our levels are moving, this more frequent lab schedule is much better. Although.. the labs are pretty useless when you don't know the results and the doctor mistakenly continues over dosing you.

It's just so much more difficult struggling to repair the damage caused by hypo. It's a slippery slope once you tip too far the hypo way..so lets get copies of those darn labs and prevent problems.

Yeah, I agree Pam, I'm about to go see someone else. The endo's office first had me scheduled for an appt. on Dec. 27, then sent me a note in the mail rescheduling me for Dec 12th, then sent me another note in the mail rescheduling me for Jan 6th. I called to see if they would be willing to draw labs in the meantime. I called twice on
Thursday regarding this, and guess what...no calls back. Still on Propranolol at 120mg too I've been on this for about 2 1/2months. Heart rate and tremors are down. Maybe I could reduce that sometime soon.

here's an update. Thanks Pam, you were right. I had my labs drawn on the 12th. The endo called on the 27th!! to say "I've been on vacation been on vacation and just saw your labs, your going hypo, so lower your Methimazole to 10mg." Going hypo!?!?! No dude!! I've done Gone!!
