Hi folks,

I've been posting summaries of Graves' Disease research over at my new GD blog. There are quite a few articles up there now and I'm planning on adding 2-3 articles a week until I work through what is on my computer.

The last article I posted was really cool - it was a review article summarizing all the medical (ie - non-surgical) treatments for GD and what the current "best practices" are.

definately agreed with the following on the antithyroid meds

MMI gets people to normal thyroid levels faster than PTU.
Patients are better about taking MMI than PTU (fewer missed doses, likely because it is only once per day instead of multiple times per day).

I'm reaching remission fairly quickly on the MMI. (it's been just about 8 weeks) Which made me very happy. Took quite a bit longer (months longer) to achieve remission on PTU, but eventually I did. I like taking the MMI better than the PTU, as it works faster and is easier to dose during the day than PTU which I had to take every 8 hours.

I do not dose once a day with the MMI as it still doesn't work for me to dose it this way. I still go three times per day and will suggest to those who are not able to get any where with once per day dosing.
