Missed a dose of Methimazole

i was out late last night and completely forgot to take my meds. I take 5mg Methimazole once a day. I’m thinking I should wait until tonight and just take my regular dose, rather than taking last night’s dose this morning and my regular dose tonight, right? Is it better to miss one dose entirely than take basically double the dose in a day? My last labs came back normal, so I don’t want to screw up the progress I’ve made!

Did you ask your Endocrinologist? Because that is a good question. It’s not a lot of MMI but you have been taking it daily. I could imagine it could go either way. Either you will not feel the difference by missing one dose or you’ll feel some symptoms. This is a toss up. How long have you been on MMI 5mg daily? I, personally, would miss that one dose. BTW, curious to know why you take your daily dosage at night time. Unfortunately, within the hour I take mine - I have to go to the bathroom right away. (Still dealing with THAT symptom) Let me know what the doctor recommends. Take Care.

I’ve been on 5mg for one month. I was on 10mg for a month before that. And 30mg before that (for a few months). I decided to just skip that one dose and resume my usual schedule last night. I felt a bit tired yesterday, but not sure it had anything to do with missing a dose...likely more to do with being up late the night before. I’ll ask my endo whaI should do it it happens again, but since this is the 1st time I’ve missed a dose, hopefully it’ll be the last! I take it at night for convenience. My weekday vs weekend mornings vary more than my evenings do, so I figured I’d just take it after dinner each night. My endo said it didn’t matter when I took my meds, as long as I consistently took it at the same time each day. I have bladder issues from spina bifida, so if it affects my bladder, I probably wouldn’t notice. Lol.

Hi:

Please do not worry over missing a dose here and there. It has happened to me many times over the past 15+ years that I have been on the MMI (Methimazole).

From what I have read on the few thyroid forums/boards that I have been on and moderated, this is actually quite common to miss a dose. :-)

Thank you, mmztcass...I couldn’t find anything online and was concerned that I could’ve really messed up my progress. Glad to hear an occasional oops isn’t a big deal :-)
