Graves' Disease Support Group
Graves-Basedow disease is a medical disorder that may manifest several different conditions including hyperthyroidism (over activity of thyroid hormone production), infiltrative exophthalmos (protruberance of one or both eyes and associated problems) and infiltrative dermopathy (a skin condition usually of the lower extremities). This disorder is the most common cause of...
To find out if you are in remission is getting these GD antibodies tests done - the TSI and the TRAb. If the TRAb is still positive and not zero, remission may not be happening.
If you are still hypO, you may be one of those 20%ers that gradually go into the hypO side. Then taking a replacement med might need to happen.

I don't know about the 20% thing.(Learning every day) What goes on with 20 percent of us?
Thank You SO much for all of your info !! I cant tell you how much I appreciate.
I was hypO (slightly and they only tested the TSH...shame, shame, shame) for many, many years prior to the antibodies switching me over to GD to where I have been since 2000.
It all depends on which thyroid antibodies is going to keep the person there at. It really isn't so difficult to be on both sides of the fences.

I see the new Graves Specialist in the City in 2 weeks.( I had a 6 month wait just to get in.)
Leave it to my body to not only beat up its own thyroid, now be difficult. Only me :) ( I do feel like I'm headed in the right direction ) Thank you for your insight and I will let you know how I make out in a couple of weeks at the new doc.
On the flip side, she can't be any worse then the last Endo. -- Aside from getting the lab scripts she was SO bad. I know if I hadn't kept cutting my dosage myself . (I would have been Hypo.)
Thanks a million..
To make my long post short...you are not on ATD's and you are very hypo...you need a T4 replacement. I agree with mmz...a antibody test would be great but like most of us...our docs are resistant to that idea...so...all you have is your test results and they clearly say you are hypo and in remission.
I am one of those 20%...I started on 25mcg of Synthroid and over the coarse of 3 years have gone up to 150mcg...what that basically says is...my thyroid stopped working. It was not an easy task because my antibodies interfered...I bounced around a lot but have finally levelled off and am consistent now.
If these were my labs I would start at 25mcg and go up by that same amount (if needed) when I got the results of my labs after 4-6 weeks...regardless of whether I got a antibody test or not...Big hugs...Kathy
I love bouncing everything off of you guys. You know your stuff.
Thank you, Thank you for being here for me.
