I will let others step in with the links of info to read about the Uptake Scan and RAI. Basically it is not necessary to check if you have Graves' by doing this test. Simple blood tests called the TSI (Thyroid Stimulating Immunoglobulins) and TRAb (Thyroid Receptor Antibodies) will check for Graves'.
Unfortunately too many doctors out there are using outdated tests and are not properly treating thyroid patients. This is for both hypER and hypO.

I asked the tech if I should stay away from kids, he said no that the amount of radiation in the uptake scan was lower than in an xray. I was also worried about my pets, cat and dog. But he said it was fine. Is that correct??? Damage done now thought,...
I have been reading the discussions on elaine moore, very helpful. But havent come across anything on hoarseness from the uptake scan. As I already had the scan, will it determine if I have Graves?
It is hard to question a Dr. who is supposed to be knowledgable isnt it?
