Hi all! I am recently diagnosed with Graves' and am looking to have more children. It seems like surgery (TT) is the safest option for having future pregnancies, but then I'm left with no thyroid for the rest of my life and may not even be able to get pregnant. I'm wondering if anyone has thoughts on being on PTU and methimazole during pregnancy. The research doesn't look great. I guess my main question is about the likelihood of relapse in pregnancy? It's my understanding a relapse is more common post partum, but maybe I'm wrong? I say relapse because I hope to put this thing into remission with strict diet, ATD's or sugery.
PTU is a better drug choice for GD while pregnant. Most women find themselves in remission during the 2nd trimester and on.
Make sure the TSI antibodies are very low before trying for a pregnancy as the TSI can cross over the placenta.
Also work on keeping the Free T4 thyroid levels at the upper third range and the Free T3 at mid range.
