General TT Update.

These are a few of the things I have noticed since having my thyroidectomy 8 days ago. The dark circles under my eyes that I have had since my teens are almost totally gone. There is color in face again, not just white as a ghost. The swelling in my feet and legs is gone, no more fred flinstone feet!!!!! The whites of my eyes were yellowish and we couldnt figure out why but they are almost normal as well. My body feels calm and my mind feels fresh, hard to explain. The dry itchy irritated scratchy eyes are gone. I have looked sick for so long it was really depressing!! Yesterday my mom came over and when I opened the door (I had just taken the the towel off my head and my hair wasnt combed) she had this strange look on her face. I said...what? She smiled at me and said you look really good, I mean you look really good!! It felt soooo good!!:D

I have been following both you are Kerrys TT stories. You both are so brave.

It sounds like you are in good spirits and recovering nicely.

Did you have a minimally invasive TT?

Are you still having parathyroid issues?

Did they inject all four parathyroids in to your shoulders or did they leave some in place.

Thanks for sharing with us all how you are doing.

I'm so happy for you. I have felt awful for almost two years. I am really considering TT just so I can feel like myself again. Thank you for your very encouraging words. Hope each day sees you feeling better and more beautiful.

Daisy, I not sure what minimally invasive is but the scar is less than 3 inches. I never had calcium issues, altho he prescibed some for a month to be safe and Vitamin D for 2 weeks. I will get bloodwork two weeks from surgery day. They moved the parathyroid glands within my neck muscles and two out of the three they moved are tender.

I wish I could post some pics but my camera only takes pics onto DVD and the DVD drive in my laptop is broken. I will try to get to my moms and post from her web-cam.

Hello,
I thought your skin crawling was a symptom of the parathyroids being disturbed. I remember you journal saying something about it may take 6 months for your parathyroids to work again because they injected them into your shoulder. Maybe it was another TT journal.
I have been trying to read up as many experiences as possible.
It is so kind of you to share what you are going though and it is even better that you are doing so well.

CONGRATS That must be such a FANTASTIC feeeling. We all can prob relate to that feeling of lookin ill & when mom says u look really good you know its gotta be the truth!! Im realy so happy for you. I truly am so greatful for you guys sharing ur TT stories. I will prob there for a TT vey soon!! SO it so comfortin to see how well ur fairing :) Keep it up keep posting :)

I think that the skin crawling was from being started on meds too soon and being a little hyper. I have been feeling really good. One of the parathyroid glands wasnt disturbed so my calcium never dropped at all.They did two blood tests before they discharged me and was told they were both perfect. One of the PT glands is now in the middle of my neck above the incision, one is on the right of the incision and the other one I dont know as it wasnt sore.


My biggest issue right now is that when I am outside in the wind I get really weak and tire easily. If its not windy then I am fine. Strange.

i am glad we are both doing so well after our TTs! i really didn't think i was going to feel this much better. everything you said i can relate to! my eyes arent dry and itchy anymore, i'm not irritable like i used to be, i'm MUCH calmer, aside from greiving and other stress. even my boyfriend notices how much calmer i sound on the phone and stuff. and the best thing of all - i havent gained any weight.. i thought for sure i was going to, but i haven't!

i think getting this TT was the best decision i ever made! seriously.

Hey Kerry, I am glad you are recovering so well now too. It is an amazing feeling. Keep it up and hopefully graves symptoms will be a thing of the past for us both:) I have not gained any weight yet either and have actually lost 5lbs. Now if I can continue to lose the reat of the 40 that I gained on meds I will be really happy;)
