Hi,  I was diagnosed with graves diease Feb16 2018 , along with thyroid eye diease , My concern is my eye... it is still puffy and i have lid retraction and i think the eye looks starey . My concern is will this go away ? Will the bags under my eyes go away ? Will i gain weight from taking Methimazole . This all so new, ugh ... I had mild symptons of hyperthyroidism it was my eye that made me go to the DR. Keeping a posotive attitude but it does affect my self esteem. Is anyone else experiencing eye issues?

Please find another poster from the other day asking Qs about the eyes.

The TSI thyroid antibodies are probably pretty high and your thyroid levels of the Free T3 and the Free T4 are probably not in the 'right' places to feel best there at (mid range for the FT3 and mid to the upper third range for FT4).

So your eyes are probably in the 'hot' phase.

Methimazole doesn't cause weight gain. It is from having the 'wrong' thyroid levels for both FT3 and FT4 that can make the weight yo yo.

Hi, I can relate to your concern as I newly diagnosed with Graves disease have the same eye thyroid disease. My eyes are puffy, swollen,sometimes, dry, itchy, red, sore. a gel film in the corner.

I have raised this concern on my first visit to the hospital, I am awaiting an appointment with a eye specilast , My advice if you have any concerns with your eyes is to ask to be referred to a specialist.

I have the same thing.-puffiness under the eyes. and swollen lids. The specialist said there is nothing I could do. They are more concerned with your sight, as they should be. He is at Johns Hopkins and is running a study using celebrex to treat the eyes. I could be placed on a placebo so I think I'm going to opt out. Everything I have read states that you need to wait until the eyes are in remission to do anything surgically. It may take up to 3 years for this to happen. If any one else has any ideas I'd love to hear about it. I can't recognize myself in the mirror anymore. I look very tired all the time and my eyes look tiny!
