Hi, I had decompression eye surgary 3 years ago. I was very scared to have this operation. I made hem pomise I would be asleep or I would not do it. Even though my eyes were bulging so bad and I had headachs. I went is the marning and was home that night. They had broke the bones under my eyes and they were stitched under the bottom eyelids. I was not told this is what they would do. I knew they would take out my eyeballs and remove the fluid around and behind my eyes. Then they would realine my eyes.
When my husband took me home I was groggy and I had ointment on my eyes. They were swollen shut. I could not see for at least a day and blurry for another day. My daughter took me to the bathroom for two days and helped me eat. I was medicated and slept a lot. I was taking pain pills and an ointment in my eyes. MY eyes were sore but with the pain pills was not too bad. The ointment stung a little. My daughter and husband had to do that for a couple of weeks I believe. They kept a note book with everything I did. Even my talking out of my head. They got a kick out of that.
I had black eyes for a couple of weeks. The swelling gradually went down. I could see straight now. I still see double when I look side ways or up and down. My eyees still get irritaded and water when I go outside. They bright sun does not bother me as much now. My eyes are looking more normal everyday. I use cool cloths,rince my face,put baby oil or vasaline around my eyes and use lubrcating eye drops regularly. Hope this helps.

I had four decompression surgeries total three on each eye. The last one will be three weeks ago Saturday. If not for the double vision and being mildly cross eyed after the last surgery I would be jumping for joy. Now I need to have muscle surgery around May to correct my vision. As far as recovery when I first woke up I was in pain, however nothing three shots of Morphine couldn't fix. Two or three hours later I was going home swollen and with blood draining so it's important to lay down as much as possible the first day. The second day I felt great still swollen but the bleeding stopped and I was able to see, by the third I could see fine and in about two weeks you could hardly tell I had surgery. My advise is try and get back into a normal routine "without lifting or exercise" as soon as you can. After my second surgery I felt so good that I went to lunch with my wife wearing my sunglasses the next day. Good Luck.
