Hi again!
So I went to the doctor a couple weeks ago and got some blood taken, and everything turned out normal! Which is good, except I still don't feel normal and my doctor only goes by what the blood work says rather than how I say I am feeling. It is very frustrating!
However, I have been experiencing sharp chest pains for the past few days. It feels like a huge weight is sitting on my chest and causing pain. It's in the upper chest area and it comes and goes throughout the day. I have no idea what it could be, but it hurts pretty bad. If it keeps up, I'll go to the doctor to see if they have any idea. Is there anything like chest pains that is related to Graves' Disease?
Thanks,
Katie

Hi! Are you on meds and how often do you have blood drawn? Can you get a copy of these tests? Don't ever take the answer "normal" when being treated for thyroid disease. Most docs (not all) keep patients more on the "hypo" side.

I am currently taking levoxyl and methimazole and get my blood drawn every 3 months. I don't have the results with me at the moment, but everything was said to be in the "normal" range. He didn't test for t3 this time, which was strange because he usually does. He also never tests for my free t3 for whatever reason.

I totally feel u. I get lots of chest pain. I also right now am getting pain in my lower left arm...comes and goes. And my left knuckle has been tingling for weeks every once in awhile. I have had tests on my heart in the past and seen a cardiologist. It has all been attributed to my hyoerthyroidism. I'm kinda Freaking out right now...

The tests you should be having every time are the Free T-3 and 4 and tsh. I see you are on block and replace therapy, that can be a good thing if it's done right. Call the office and ask for the ACTUAL numbers, then we can help if we know at least the FT4. Usually but not always the chest pains (especially someone as young as you) are due low thyroid hormone levels. Your levels maybe considered in the "normal" range but may be too low for your body's needs. You need at least the T-3 if not the free, to maybe give an idea of what that is too. You might be LOW normal. Hope this helps.

I got diagnose in march 29 2012 I was rushed to the hospital. I was scared, they thought I was having a heart attack!! Well it was graves disrase with hyperthyroid and I'm still scared. I was pescribe proponolol and methimizole and went to my endo doctor on August 1 2012. What is scaring me is that I'm off my meds because my levels are going down little by little but I'm having chest pains for almost 3 mths already!!!! My heart has been checked and there's nothing wrong with it!! It's frustrating I'm only 20 and my family doesn't understand me!!! Feels like I'm dyeing inside:/

I'm euthyroid at the moment, so they say: 'normal', but get these sharp stabbing chest pains too so having my bloods done every few months in case i develop thyroid issues with the TED. My tsh has been high at some points... 6.2 but get told its not that high, sigh!

Jemjems I know how you feel.. There saying that my body is adjusting from being high to going low because the thyroid is releasing all of the hormones but these chest pains I cannot deal with. Went to have my heart checked out and ts normal but I'm going back to my primary doctor do she can check me out. I'm glad that I'm not hyper anymore but still feel some symtoms ...:/

I always heard never to let a symptom like chest pain and pressure go without checking it out. Could it be acid reflux too? I suffered greatly from that when my symproms were acting up. Hope you feel relief soon.

Get copies of your labs and post them. Then we can help you possibly. You are all too young for chest pains and heart problems. It is probably your thyroid levels. Either they are changing, you are going hyper again or your levels are too low.(hypo) They are other symptoms of hypo you can look up and see if you have any others. Most people are overdosed by their docs on the anti thyroid meds. We are all living proof of it.We have all been there.

Have you check for vitamin and mineral defiency? I'm going Monday to check with my regular doctor. Sometimes our bodies are low wih vitamins and minerals and we should get it check. There are some people that take magnesium because their body is low on it and it helps with Chet pains, but first find out if you have a defiency.

Yes, it's true vitamins and certain supplements can help a lot. I take b vitamins, magnesium, calcium, purified fish oil, vitamin d...sometimes selenium and Co-q 10,vitamin c, extra folate, (I have mediterranean anemia) extra B-12.I take a lot!

Do you know is flaxseed oil is good for you? And if your taking these vitamins, did you start taking them on your own? Or by regular doctor orders?and how do you know what is the right dosage for you?

Also have you have any other problems? I have now acid reflux, which I never had before.

I think flax is not great if you're hypothryoid,I've been told. It's something about it acts like estrogen in your body. Maybe Mm knows,or Cd. If you take b vitamins, they are water soluble so what you don't use, your body gets rid of. (C too) Most people with thyroid disease have low vitamin D, especially if you live in the Northeast. Also selenium can be low for us.You can have those levels checked. Women need calcium all through their lives, better to start young! Acid reflux or trouble with digestion can happen if your levels are too low(FT3 and 4). Try not to take anything that totally stops the production of acid in your stomach but maybe just slows it down instead. So many docs prescribe those acid blockers and then people take them too long, try to stop them and they have a bad rebound effect. Acid gets worse, they go back on them, then they are stuck on them. This also can cause absorption issues, of vitamins and minerals if taken for a long time. They can be taken for about 4 -6 weeks, that's it. Unless you have some serious condition of the esophagus, which I doubt.
