I love Halloween too. :)
We don't get many little ones here anymore, but all of us in the neighborhood still have fun. My next door neighbor has his organ set up to send the music outside to bounce off of a solid metal wall of a warehouse across from him. He gives all of us a creepy Halloween night of music. It draws everyone out .
Great fun.

The book I recommend for new patients is Thyroid for Dummies.

Dr Alan Rubin is a very good doctor and people I know that have seen him give glowing reports. He fact are correct, and his opinion is valid. When speaking to your doctor, if you talk about something he said in the book, the doctor won't laugh and dismiss your concerns.

Mary is a journalist. She has Hashimoto's and has had a difficult time getting the care she needed. Her books on Hashimoto's are good.

For this hyper book she had only the results of a Google search to help her, and unfortunately the doctor she interviewed is a BAD Graves' doctor. I say that not having been treated by him, but from a few of his Graves' patients I have known and his ideas in the book.

There are lots of mistakes in Mary's book, so please ask when things concern you. The recommended starting ATD doses are ridiculous... toxic. She says beta blockers can cause hyperthyroid.. the list goes on.

Personally I read all the books.. but getting a good basic knowledge base first is needed in order to better help yourself, and see the errors when you see them. Mary did include many ideas of things to research..just don't trust that anything she says is true. Most that buy her book pick RAI due to these errors. It sounds too good to be true, and you know what they say about that.

Hypo patients have never understood us. Mary herself has said we are addicted to high hormone levels..like a drug addict. Yes.. she said that in her forum back before she decided to write a book for us. Her current moderator there said the same thing to me a long time ago when I was attempting to help a new Graves' gal. Mary said it was like heroin and the moderator said it's like cocaine.
I've got a memory like an elephant sometimes. :(
We get no respect ! I don't know anyone that wants to be hyper.

I bought this same book when I was first diagnosed. I felt it was money wasted. The best info and help I got was through Elaine Moore. Her books are awesome. Since I had TED...her book on TED was incredibly helpful. She also has a website that is very informative...here's the link. You can ask specific questions that she answer's. yes, agreed,Mary Shoman is good for people that are hypo, not hyper, her forte is hypo. You want to read Elaine Moore's book for Graves. It's called "Graves disease, a practical guide" Also the thyroid for dummies is good too, I bought mine used at Amazon. I got Elaine's at the library.P.S. I had about 64 kids this year, it was a slow night..LOL!
