Hi! How long have you known you've had Graves? Do you know your latest labs and if you are still considered hyper? What dose are you on? I'm sure it's way too early to make a permanent decision but yes a TT is better for the eyes than having RAI, which does increase antibody production.

I just found out about 3 weeks ago. I thought it was just Post-partum thyroiditis, but all the anti-bodies, and goiter and stuff is positive for Grave's. The endo still wants to do a scan to be absolutely sure, but not till I'm done nursing. If I had to do something permanant, if the meds won't work, or affect my liver, I think at this point I would choose surgery.

If the doctor was rough touching your thyroid during the exam, extra hormone sometimes is squeezed out. You will become temporarily more hyper. For me this lasted about 24 hours, followed by being more tired for a couple days.. the first day after is the worst.

This excessive force is NOT needed, but some do it. You have the right to STOP them. At least with all the interns that got to see me, I trained quite a few. LOL

Hang in there. This too will pass. Try ( I know it's next to impossible due to the adrenaline caused by this) ..try to not worry about things right now. Divert your thoughts to something more positive, creative, or satisfying. Garden, paint a picture, organize a shelf...

I hated this when that happened to me during the middle of the night. I'd wake up with a panic attack. For me it was because my Free T3 was too high.

I know how you feel..Ive been there too and almost everyone here has. I truly feel its to early for you to be thinking about ablation although researching your options is a good thing. I had a severe case of TED but once my levels normalized my TED spontaneously healed. I did initially have the steroid drip and a weeks worth of prednisone to slow it down but other than that getting my levels right with ATD's and using supplements helped my eyes heal.

My 1st choice was to try for remission..both my endo's were against it but I had the support of my GP. After researching my options..if I needed a permanent treatment...a TT would be my choice. The only time I would use RAI is if I had cancer. Luckily I rejected my Endo's advise and tried for remission anyway...I have now been in remission for 3 years.

I know its frustrating and you just want to feel better and get on with life but the thing you have to remember is...even if you have a TT you will still have Graves. We have quite a few members here that went that route and are doing very well but they also researched it...understood there labs...understood there disease and had learned there bodies reaction to meds, diet, stress etc. They were just as informed or more informed than there endo's. ATD's buy's you the time to learn your bodies reactions and research your options so you can make an informed decision.

The reason I didnt have a TT right away is because I wanted to keep my thyroid and hopefully heal it. The thyroid is the thermostat to the body. It helps regulate so many different things. I didnt want to give it up unless I absolutely had to. Besides the thyroid is a victim..just like our eyes are...they dont cut our eyes out...they allow them to heal. I know thats a rather harsh comparison but its kind of a true one... especially for me. Big Hugs...Kathy

Kathy is a great testimonial to how taking meds can work, especially in her case where she had TED too. A lot of people have complained about these"adrenalin rushes" so to speak, this happened to me too and are common in the beginning. It takes about 6 weeks for all the excess thyroid hormone to leave after being put on meds.
