Hey y'all. I'm new here. I was diagnosed with Graves' disease going on 4 years ago, I was 16 years old. It all started out with me getting really sick. The doctors thought it was a stomach virus and thought it just needed to run it's course. Well I never got better. I couldn't eat and lived on popsicles for a month. Since everyone on my mom's side of the family has some type of thyroid problem the doctor checked my blood. When he saw how high it was he just about fell off his stool. He sent me to a specialist. When I was diagnosed I had extremely high blood pressure, heart palpitations, tremors, insomnia, and a goiter. After having an ultrasound on my neck to check for tumors, the doctor scheduled me for radioactive iodine. I went in and took the pill and waited. They say what goes up, must come down, and boy did I. Before I was started on levothyroxine I was cold all the time, I barely made it through a day of school without falling asleep, my hair fell out, I was just not myself at all. After I started on the pills I felt so much better. They're still trying to get it all figured out. I have blood tests every few months which usually results in changing my dose, I hope they find the right one soon!!
