Good thing Snippy, diet drinks have Aspartame in them and can be a trigger for Graves. Stay away from it, it's a poison to everybody, let alone us.Look up dangers of aspartame. I am on the slender side and have been hypo and only gain 2 pounds and I have been hyper like I am slightly now and lose 2 pounds.Who knows, some people with Hashi's can gain 20 or more pounds in a short amount of time, so a few isn't bad. Try to eat more protein, less carbs, we don't need as much as some of us have. Also try to drink more water,put some lemon juice in it if youdon't like it plain, but you get used to it.I put a couple of ounces of cranberry juice in mine.just don't have artificial or too much sugar either. My daughter uses stevia, which is more natural.

I am on the slender side as well. I used to have problems with my weight but in a weird way. I would just gain weight..no diet changes or activity changes. I heaviest I got to was almost 200lbs. I was at that weight for about a year and then suddenly it came off...again...no diet changes. Since I've been diagnosed...I gained 20 lbs when I was allowed to go hypo on ATD's. Since I've been regulated...I havnt had any weight problems at all. I maintain the weight I am now with no changes to my diet or activity level...mind you I have always been very physical. I really do think levels have a lot to do with it. For me...if I stay on the higher end of mid range..everything works better including my weight...Big Hugs...Kathy

I too am in that 15%!! I have always been prone to weight gain and between quitting smoking and having GD - I was doomed !! Spring is coming so I am going to try and get some exercise - like walking. I believe you are not supposed to get you heart rate up so I'll go slow!

Hi Snippy - I was one of the 15% as well but through exercise and watching what I ate I have been able to lose and maintain an almost 100lb weight loss - none of it from the Graves - I lost very slowly - 1/4 lb etc. There is no easy way but it can be done. The only limit I had on exercise was when my FT3's were out of range but I was able to cycle;swim;hike and when then came back down I started running again. It may seem like an impossible journey, but it's not - a few more challenges yes. I haven't gained over 5 lbs since being on the MMI - I watch what I eat and make sure I get the exercise - I really believe that is the key and it makes me feel better. That was my lifeline after being diagnosed last June - when all else failed I could go to the gym, the pool, ride my bike, walk or head for the mountains - it felt normal when most things weren't. I drink lots of water, whole grains, fresh fruits, veggies - limit the bread and pasta, lean protein. I hope that helps. Feel free to ask me questions - I'd love to help if I can.

I am not really overweight, but I was extremely hyper for maybe eight months and lost minimal weight. I was simply eating 4,000 calories a day! I had no idea what was going on. In the decade before I was diagnosed my appetite swung wildly. My aunt gains substantial weight when she is hyper as she, too, compensates with intake... Also, I get in the habit of eating constantly while hyper, so when I become euthyroid I feel like I eat more than I should.

When my Graves first started in 2002, I was very hungry and gained weight. As the disease progressed, started losing weight. This is when I was undiagnosed by a doctor.

When I was first told i had graves I lost 32 lbs in two months. Now I will lose 7 or 8 lbs do nothing different and the next week put it back on.O, forgot, see here we go forgetting...lol lost 32 gained 16 lost 8 now I have gained it all back.
