why isnt your mommy here ?
That's quite an insinsitive stupid thing to ask a kid. Um hello, ask the adult if you feel you must verify. I had to take gs to dentist yesterday as he got kicked in mouth at school and lost baby tooth . Dentist receptionist is digging through paperwork, who are you? I explain custodial grandmother, she says " who is it that usually brings him? I pointed to custody paper in her left hand , right there, I'm on the front page! She wants to know why his pawpaw usually brings him and I haven't . people are too nosey, what does that have to do with his teeth , she sees my name on custody paper and asking me this at front desk. ....... She asks about how he got hit, the nurse and dr ask same question . I feel like I'm being publically interviewed by dss .

TT Denstist and let him know how you felt regarding his staff. If he was part of it, I'd find a new dentist.

This is why we need to increase awareness. These places could avoid making our GK feel different just by looking at the documents and asking to see our id. Kids would probably never know that isn't how they treat everybody.

I've decided the next idiot who asks a nosey question I'm goingto ask them a barage of personal questions and ask how they feel about it.

Probably w be politically correct and not do i but really?!

It's probably just plain ignorance. Like you, it upsets me, but I figure if I educate them quietly they might be more subtle with the next child that comes along. (-:

We thought if we were honest, it w help the school to help our gs. We were wrong. We had the birth certificate with our names as parents. They began to accuse us of "spoiling" him since we were his grandparents. Nothing was further from the truth. We decided when we got custody that we must parent him and created a structured environment with plenty of love all of our family. He had ear surgery the last day of 1st grade which left him with a 70% hearing loss i his left ear. He was given a hearing and kids bullied him because he wore it. We didn't even know the difference between unilateral and bilateral hearing loss and how to communicate with someone with this loss. He had an IQ of 140 in second grade, read at three years over his age. Schools do not recognize nor understand the issues facing grandparents raising their grandchildren so they tend to put us in a box and when that doesn't work, it's our fault
