Does he have to be your child to get him baptised? Can't you do it without telling anyone if you are afraid the bios will object? It's not like you are doing anything physical to him.... You're just taking him to church.... :)
Does your health insurance have any clause that says they will cover a dependent if you are provided more than 50% of their support and claiming them as a dependent on you taxes? I would call the insurance company and ask. I think ours is worded that way so even if we didn't have guardianship it would cover Tyler.
As guardian, a person has the right to religiously train the child. That is one of the benefits I was mentioning in the difference between having guardianship and custody. The parents no longer have the say-so in any matter in the child's life. The guardian is responsible for all decisions once they receive guardianship. There should be no problem getting a child baptised as their guardian, I wouldn't think. At least there SHOULDN'T be. Custody is another matter entirely.
Maybe I misunderstood your post, Liam. I understood you to be talking about guardianship vs. adoption. Was I misunderstanding? Sorry if I was. I understand you only have custody now, and thought you were talking to the lawyers about adoption vs. guardianship.
I will see my SW this friday and ask him if we can do a guardianship soon...because we were told by casey family program that he or the baby's lawyer can do it for us.
