Grandparents Raising Children Support Group
This community is dedicated to grandparents who are the primary caregivers of their grandchildren. In cases where the parents are not willing or able to provide adequate care for their children, grandparents may take on the role of primary caregivers. We haven't heard from Pinky in three weeks, and we're not even sure she remembers the date. But we've made it clear to the kids that NOTHING will change except some paperwork. Their last names will remain the same and the useless bio-dads' names will disappear from their new birth certificates (a good thing in my opinion, since they've never been involved in their lives anyway).
And we've told them that Pinky will still be their "Mommy" (How I wish that didn't have to be true), because we don't want them to think their lives will be disrupted once more.
I hope your hearing goes smoothly!!!!
Portrait thing is that you are confirming to your grandchildren thAt you. 're and their life will be secure. Our grandson was baptized in the hospital on his mother's chest. We decided to hAve him baptized in church with family.and friends to celebrate.
When we came home, we looked at pictures and told stories of our trip. This help move the negativity out of our home, If you can do this please try. We now travel once a year and it's great!
You'd think, logically, that taking care of someone else's child would quality you for more benefits. After all, they aren't your kids.
But ironically, the goodies kick in when they DO become yours. I just don't understand government sometimes.
Snow, I agree with you and would skip visit.
Sara, I hear you about the benefits. Crazy! Our GD can't be on anything of ours, but she is 17 and does not want to be adopted now. CPS planned to terminate parental rights when she was 6, but my horrid daughter convinced a new SW that she was a wonderful mother and I was trying to steal her child.
