We got Guardianship!

Well I was strong and didnt offer bio mom a ride to the court date. It was really hard to do, but it would have been harder had I driven the 2 to 3 hour round trip. Of course she couldn't get to the hearing. And I'm thrilled to report that we got guardianship. We were thrilled. Buy as u all know it's a bitter sweet feeling. Well bio called be Friday evening to check in on the result of the hearing. When I told her we got guardianship the first thing she said was- now visitiayion is between us right? I know she's stressing because she needs the kids to show up when housing checks in. She was supposed to visit Saturday and we haven't heard from her. It will be very interesting to see what happens next. Unfortunately as u know victory in this case has a price- dealing with bios for years to come.

It really is bitter sweet but at least now you know the grandkids are safe with you, and you will now have the upper hand were the bios are concerned. Congratulations !!!

I am glad to hear you got guardianship! That is key in the stability for your GKs. Yes, it does mean dealing with bios and that is probably the hardest part of wheat we have to do.

Congrats on your victory, bitersweet though it is.

So glad you got guardianship......we are still waiting for our court date to see if we get custody. I certainly think taking care of the children (even tho we have 4) is still easier than dealing with their crazy parents!

And does she come & get the kids for the "housing" visits? Wow; you're raising her kids AND making sure she can have them there just when she needs them so she doesn't end up out on the street with nowhere to live. These bios amaze me - especially the ones who are raping the system of free food and housing at the taxpayers expense while someone else is raising their kids!!!! YOU should be the one getting benefits for the kids!!

Yes, my daughter is getting medicare and food stamps on the basis that she has a child...the one I support and am raising. And she periodically screams that she is going to get custody back because she needs housing!

No I won't take the kids to her when she needs them for housing. I would never do that. But before the guardianship and supervised visits, when she said jump...I said how high out of fear of losing the kids. I later discovered that she would call when she needed the kids for housing and food stamp purposes. Well the party is over for her. I suspect she will be losing everything soon.

Pinky's only supposed to be on welfare for five years, ever since welfare reform went into effect. BUT -- there's always a loophole, huh? -- as long as she keeps being diagnosed as an addict she's considered disabled and bipolar, so her five years keep getting renewed.

How's that for working the system? She's perfectly able to work as long as she doesn't start using. She's been the best worker at every job she had (until she started using, that is). But it's much easier to sit back and collect from the rest of us and put it in the household pool with her well-paid boyfriend. Grrrrrrrrrr.
