Grandparents Raising Children Support Group
This community is dedicated to grandparents who are the primary caregivers of their grandchildren. In cases where the parents are not willing or able to provide adequate care for their children, grandparents may take on the role of primary caregivers. Okay..this is a two fold front.
1) Son has been good about buying diapers, wipes,etc for his daughter that is staying and living with us. I have been her main care giver since the middle of Oct. 2013. We have bonded and are very close!
Son isn't looking too hard to find a job or a place to stay. He is still a drift but he does show up about every other day or so to see his daughter for a few minutes.
Today he came and took her to her Kan Be Healthy, was here for her Early Head Start home visit and went with me to her WIC appointment to get things changed around. We even ended up getting her 6 month shots today! He is to come back on Friday and watch her while I work. He will also have to start watching her on a daily basis here in about another week. So we will see how that goes!
2) Youngest step grand daughter has court on Nov. 27. The court is looking to sever all parental rights to the child. She is just 22 months old and has been in foster care with her half brother since May 2012. Her brother will go to live with his bio dad in Texas which is a very good thing.
My daughter got the paperwork in the mail today to start the possible adoption process to get the little girl! They have until Jan 6th to get all of the paperwork filled out and submitted. My daughter is both excited and overwhelmed with things right now.
My husband and I are excited that there is a chance my daughter may be able to adopt the little girl. That would mean she could be close to her older half sister whom we have and be able to spend time with her. My husband suggested to his oldest daughter, the bio mom to 3 kids, that she might want to encourage the adoption my her step sister just to try to keep the little girl int he family. I guess she seemed okay with that idea..but who knows with her for sure.
Oh....my husband is driving truck these days. So that means on Thursday nights it is just the 3 of us girls at home....a 6 yr old, a 6 month old and an ole grandma ( 55 yrs)!
So not a lot of things have changed but yet there are some good things happening also. My son got upset today when the suggestion of adoption was brought up to him. At this late date, I would step in an say " over my dead body" is she going anywhere!
The 6 yr old likes to think of herself as the 6 mo old's "big sister" although they are step cousins at best. The girls do get along and the 6 yr old does try to help grandma although it can be too much at times.
Wishing we were richer and healthier for all of this but we keep hanging in there! Just wanted to post something kind of up beat since so many are struggling right now. I feel for all of you and my heart goes out to you all.
There does come a time and a place where we can only do so much. That is when we and the "others" ( bio parents, ex's,etc) just have to accept things and deal with it. We are only human also!

We just adopted my cousin's DD in May, she is 8... we had her at 5 days old until almost 2 and then again at almost 4 for the past three years when we decided to adopt.
we have custody of our GS who is 7 since he was 11 months old. when we got our Adopted DD back three years ago the GS took to her as if she had been with us his whole life as she did us and him. they are a year apart, a grade apart, a pound a part, an inch apart, and ware the same size in cloths and shoes, they act like twins. I even get ask it they are twins, they have always referred to each other as brother and sister and some time claim to be twins... lol... we tell them and every one else they are bro and sis in our hearts and God's eyes.
