It's been awhile and I wanted to update everyone. I had written a few months ago about my cancer and my husband committing suicide. I know alot of you have been praying for me. On January 4th I found out my cancer is in remission. Thank you God and thank you to everyone who kept me in their prayers!!!! I will need surgery soon as a measure to reduce changes of reoccurence and I am grateful I am a candidate for the surgery. I am progressing in my grief, thanks to God, my counselor and keeping busy with the girls and I ;vee been doing volunteer work which is enjoyable. I fee like I am getting a new chance for the new year.
Last week I received a notice from Juvenile Court that one of my girl's father who got out of prison in April, has been in prison before and jail numerous times with a criminal/drug history spanning over 25 years is taking me to court for custody and visitation. I find it hard to believe the court would allow him near my granddaughter but I will have to pay for an attorney to fight it.
Tomorrow I am attending a court hearing for my daughter's youngest girl. I do not have custody of her. Her paternal grandmother, who I don't know has temporary custody and this hearing is for permanent custody. I promised my husband I wouldn't become close to my youngest granddaughter because we knew my daughter would eventually lose custody and my husband had told me he would not raise another of her children. Now, my husband is dead. I know I cannot raise her. I have to fight my cancer right now. I do think my girls should know their baby sister and maybe someday I could get custody. I want them to be together. I want to request vistation rights at court tomorrow.

As for the criminal biodad, I sure wouldn't worry about him getting custody. At best, he might win supervised visitation. My granddaughter has a biodad who is an abusive alcoholic so I totally understand your trepidation of him being around "his" child. Maybe he's just trying not to have to pay child support? Bioparents rarely all of a sudden want to have custody--I think most of them just don't want to pay court-ordered child support. But let us know what the lawyer says. I'm super interested in that!

My GD's bio-dad sounds a lot like the bio-dad you describe. He was supposed to be released from his latest incarceration yesterday. He would file for custody out of sheer arrogance, and ignorance. Actually, I think our society takes better protective steps for animals than for the children. I love animals, but ... it's just wrong.
