Grandparents Raising Children Support Group
This community is dedicated to grandparents who are the primary caregivers of their grandchildren. In cases where the parents are not willing or able to provide adequate care for their children, grandparents may take on the role of primary caregivers. Join the support group to find support, share your experience, and get advice from other members.
Several months into therapy she suddenly announced that she loved the therapist, and from then on things started to progress quickly.
A good therapist should know about how long the course of treatment should last. They have a sense of when the average client reaches the breakthrough point, and when it appears that it won't happen. You can always bring it up with the therapist and see what her feelings are...
By chance, our eldest granddaughter's therapist (the one that did the terrific job) was also an adoption specialist. I think that was a major part of the success.
Perhaps you could call an adoption agency and ask for the names of adoption specialists in your area. They seem to understand the abandonment issues that our grandchildren are dealing with.
She is going to see GD for 90 minutes per week for awhile and we are looking into DBT therapy group also. And Sara, she does do adoption work also!
We are seeing both of them next week. Also, the child protection investigator called last week and they are charging bio father with sexual abuse which will be in his record for 10 years. He can fight it, so we'll see what he does.
My grandchildren are still in my home but their mom also lives with me. The court gave her custody and it will be finalized with the courts in October. I love having my daughter her -- it makes everything so much easier to have her here. She's made so much progress and is working hard to do a good job, however I do believe she needs me to help her raise the children. At last I'm able to take walks and join a couple of new meet up groups just for me.
I am so happy for you, your daughter and your grandchildren! Together you can do this!
