Trying to stay calm

My husband and I have raised our grandaughter since she was 8. She is now 22 and a wonderful young lady. We took custody of her half sister when the oldest was 12. The youngest is now 9 and we have had her since she was 10 months. Their mom ( my daughter) has battled addictions for 25+ yrs. Throughout our having the girls she has been in and out of their lives. At one time she was clean almost a yr. and things were going well even though she made no positive direction or real sincere interest in providing for the girls as a full time mom. She has now announced that she is pregnant from her 5 month relationship partner. Neither one have decent jobs and are always on the verge of eviction. I was not thrilled with her news as she has not spent more than 3 visits all summer with her child. Always to busy, not feeling good or we just didn't hear from her. My vent is.....now I have to explain to her youngest that mommy's pregnant. I went through this with the oldest when she was 12 and it was a difficult time for her, I'm sure she she felt she was not wanted by mom and now she's going to have another baby. Well, here we are again. I'm am so upset with my daughter. We do our best to provide some normalcy for the gc as its hard enough to be raised by grandparents when all their friends are with "mom's". Sorry, for the long winded vent, I needed to get it out and this is a place I'm sure many can relate.

I appreciate your share . I have been raising my 6 year old grandson since April this year. My daughter is a Herion Addict. I took in my grandson when he was 2 years old and had too return him to his father. Anyway he was abused by his dad and his dads girlfriend landed up in 6 Foster Homes this last year. I a so blessed to have him but it is really hard.
My daughter has been clean and sober for 10 months. She lives in Calif and I live in oregon. I haven't met anyone in my situation you're the first!!
It will be hard for the your younger grandchild but in the end she will grow up to cherish you. it all hurts thank god for them we are here for hem.

Haha, we become good at multi tasking! You are right. My 22 yr. old is a responsible, caring young lady. She tells me often how grateful she is to me for being there for her.

I too have a daughter whose is on drugs and we are in the beginning stage of trying get them adopted by us , we have had them a yr 15, 12 , 3 , and its very hard they are no good they only care about drugs and it makes me sick , I'm so mad at my daughter , I just pray a lot and muddle my way thru this , we have to get through a trial before we can go on , its hurts the kids and its hurts us , so I know what you are going thru , any advice for me.,mary

My DD was a drug addict when she gave birth. I have adopted both her children since then. I told my DD I will not be taking anymore children. If she became prego, I don't want to know or see her. I also told her no visits with the children during that time as well. I know her and I know me. I don't trust her to stay clean and I know I would become attached. I love my GC, I just know when the home is full and at my age the home is full! Good luck.
