That came in handy when we got custody, because they can easily shorten it to "Mom" whenever they want. They call Pinky Mommy.
I want to adopt but probably never will because he has a semblance of a relationship with her. I'm sorry but at this point I feel robbed and taken advantage of and under appreciated
I've had him since he was 1, and that's longer than he can remember
mom, is ok it's who we are to them. I almost consider it cruel to tell a small child that they can't.call us what they feel we are to them. It's as if we were saying "stop calling us mom and dad we're not your mom and dad! How cruel would that be. These kids don't know any better. They didn't ask to be put in this situation so why drag them into it? I just pray to god everyday that he protect these children. I return I promise to treat them as my own and that's what I do. They are my own, I am mom.
And who has to comfort them while they cry for their absent worthless bios , that's my job too !
This went on for 2 1/2 years, until she died of an overdose, one month before GD's 3rd birthday. GD never asked about her, never missed her, never noticed she no longer came to visit, because Grandma and Grandpa were her stability and security.
GD always called our daughter Mommy, because that's what DD called herself and how we referred to her. GD called us Grandma and Grandpa. One day about 9 months or so after her mother's death GD said to me, "I'm gonna call you mommy." Blindsided me, unexpectedly, right out of the blue. Fortunately I recovered quickly and replied, "You can call me mommy if you want to because I take care of you like a mommy. I do all the things for you that your mommy isn't here to do for you. And I am a mommy. I'm your uncle's and aunt's mommy. I'm your mommy's mommy. And now I'm your mommy, too, because you're my little girl." She especially loves it when I tell her how lucky she is to have 2 mommies.
She's called us mommy and daddy ever since. We've always made sure she knows that her mommy is our daughter, but since she's in Heaven now, we're doing her job. GD has always accepted this without question and I know it gives her a great deal of security. Kids want to be like their peers and I'm pretty sure she told me what she did that day because of hearing kids at preschool talking about their mommies and daddies.
We have since adopted her, which really hasn't changed anything, other than knowing we never have to worry about her SpermDonor trying to get custody.
It feels pretty weird, though, looking at a birth certificate that states I gave birth when I was 53. ;-)
