Sara, hate to tell you but when you responded you gave them your IP address and that's what they were looking for. They can even get into bank accounts with that. Better check your virus scan and change passwords. Next time, just spam them and let your sp deal w/them. I just had my computer wiped clean and new software loaded because a company alerting me to a "dangerous virus" on my computer locked me up and the only way out was to purchase their software to "protect" my computer! It's a bad world out there!

BTW, those sites that lock up your computer are frauds. I discovered that when I landed on them a few times and had to physically turn off my computer to get out of the site - it kept "scanning" my computer.

I Googled it and found out that it's a technique they use to force you to buy their software. I haven't gotten those sites since I got my virus protection, but the only thing to do is turn off the computer using the button. :-(

thx back. My son just wiped my computer clean and reloaded new software including virus protection. I did have protection when it hit but it came across as warning that my computer was infected. By the time I realized it, it had grabbed onto my computer. Just can't be safe enough! As stupid as it sounds, I didn't think of just pushing button! Duuu!!

The "good news" is that those sites that grab your computer and "scan" it without letting you escape the site aren't planting viruses (as far as I know). They're just scamming people into buying expensive software.
