This community is dedicated to grandparents who are the primary caregivers of their grandchildren. In cases where the parents are not willing or able to provide adequate care for their children, grandparents may take on the role of primary caregivers. When our youngest (now 6) was about three, he would say "I love you with all your heart."
Now that has become our "special" thing, and I hope we say it to each other forever. I even taught him how to say "te quiero con todo su corazon" and we say it to each other regularly. (Part of my failed attempt to learn Spanish.)

I guess the most precious thing to me is when my gs runs up to me and says "I need a hug"
Granddad had her in the grocery store 2 days ago they were looking for French bread. She asked how she would know it was french bread, he said she needed to say hello to all the bread and when one said "hi" back in french she would know.
So she is going thru the deli saying "hi" to all the bread and he is answering in english until she gets to the french and he says "bonjour". She brings him the bread and he is talking to the deli lady when they notice she is still saying "hi" to all the bread and a crowd of people are watching her. So he started saying "hi" in spanish, german, korean and french. She picked up each loaf that wasn't english and brought them all to him. The crowd laughed and applauded and he had to explain what was going on.
He didn't tell me this the deli lady did this morning when I was picking up cheese. Now I know how much fun they really have.
I think it's so wonderful to hear all the fun things the kids say admist the hurt and heartache that they endure daily from their bio's... It's also wonderful to hear us gp share these things as well.
For my almost 3 yr old gd, she will sit at the table and want something off my plate. We are teaching her to ask instead of just taking. I tell her that momma will share with her anything off my plate and all she has to do is ask for it. So one night, she went to reach for something and I asked her if she remembered what I told her. She looked at me, smiled and said "Yes please momma, I can have some your bread?" I then told her "Yes baby you may." When she got it, she got all excited and said, "See momma? I learn my manners." It was so adorable.
Also, when he sees I am really tired, he comes up to me & gives me a tight hug & says he is giving me some of his energy..I always joke & say you have so much energy, I wish I could have just a little so now he does the tight hug.

teeth chattering because he was cold, after swimming: "ma- I sound like a woodpecker"
Oh, and dread of dreads after he watched the old vintage king kong:
"mom, king kong ate a man sandwich"

My niece used to say "hims" as in "give him hims breakfast." She was also breastfed, and for a while there when she was sitting on someone's lap (male, female, made no difference), she would pull out their shirt and say "dink-dink!"
I just have to tell this one, although it was my youngest dd. We were driving one evening and the sun was setting behind a cloud and she exclaimed, totally surprised "Look! The sun is broke!"
