So very sad to hear of the latest developments with Pinky. I identified with you so much over the years (though my daughter was my natural child) and though I haven't been an active member for a long while I peek in every now and again.
Yup, such is the power of addiction. You always hope it will turn around but it's only the very few that can make it happen. And it doesn't mean that they don't want to. Nobody WANTS to be an addict . Hell, it doesn't even mean they don't love their kids. One thing doesn't really have much to do with the other except where it impacts their ability to actually care responsibly for the kiddos. (Some even believe they ARE caring responsibly for the kids!)
Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I feel for all of you and hope Pinky can be one of the few that make it for all your sake but especially for those 3 who have never deserved the fall-out. :-(
Addiction is something I never thought I would have to deal with. My son (who has been getting help) says that the men's homeless shelter in our city is an easy source of drugs. Even in the half way house he's living in now, residents still use and try to play the system. The temptation is everywhere and it takes a lot of support for an addict to say no.
She told us that her social worker found funding for yet another rehab, so we'll see what happens. But the same issues will face her when she gets out - she has no education, can't pass a background check (drugs and prostitution), so she can't get a job. And she must've done something new because we've been getting about 3-4 letters a day from lawyers advertising their services to her.
I suppose I should be thankful that she's gotten the OK to go into a rehab, but at this point it seems like a waste of her time and our taxpayer dollars. Sounds harsh, but I hope THIS TIME it works. (The definition of insanity.)

Supposedly Pinky got her funding and has to call every day to see if there's an opening. She wants to visit today because it's our middle kid's birthday. We'll see if she shows up.
Special days are more of a trial than a treat anymore. I know the kids are hoping mom will appear. You can see their countenance fall as the day progresses and she is not there.
Mom is homeless and addicted to meth. Our other daughter is an addict too but we haven't seen her since the day she put the baby in my husbands arms and walked out of the court house and everyone's lives.
Do the tears ever end?
Apparently she's waiting for space in the rehab, but who knows?
