This community is dedicated to grandparents who are the primary caregivers of their grandchildren. In cases where the parents are not willing or able to provide adequate care for their children, grandparents may take on the role of primary caregivers. This year is our 5th year in this house and my second year of a large veggie garden.
I have been conditioning the horrible soil we have. Last year we did pretty good with our garden however; this year it is just overwhelming!! I did prepare myself by buying lots of new canning equipment and freezer containers.
Because I have been busy the last couple of days I couldn't get out to my garden to pick all the ripe veggies I needed to pick. This morning in a very hot and humid day I got picking. I have washed and now I am cutting up, cooking, canning as much as I can.
I am so tired and my legs are killing me from standing over my island in the kitchen near the stove.
I am very happy that we are going to have a great stock of veggies for the cooler season but I could sure use another set of hands. I did try to plant where not everything came up at the same time however; it still is too much for one person to work. I wish my husband was more into gardening like me. Sure he loves to cook with the tomatoes in his Sunday Spaghetti sauce but that is where he stops his support.
I know, that when the cool weather comes I will be dreaming of these days of producing organic food for my family that I am growing and canning.
Right now....I just want to kick back and dream of someone else doing the rest and of course the mess that is left behind.

I can do wonders with shrubs and perennials. But aside from tomatoes, for some reason I just can't get the veg going. I'll try next spring for sure. I envy you!!!!!
