Yesterday we had our 3rd pre-trial hearing for termination of parental rights. At the first one we terminated the bio dad. Daughter did not show up. At the second daughter showed up-refused to relinquish-went through the hearing and at the end wanted to get an attorney. The owner of the bar she worked at was an attorney, and not telling him the full story he fell for her tears about missing her son and not being allowed to see him so he took her on-pro-bono. The day he filed his appearance was the last he could contact her. Yesterday was the continuation of the hearing (pre-trial). She did not appear after sending me e-mails claiming she had terminal lung cancer. In January she claimed breast cancer and over the past two years she has claimed 7 terminal illnesses and 16 medical emergencies for debilitating pain resulting in multiple ER visits for each. You all get where I am going with this. Her attorney called on the phone and we conducted the hearing that way. I, of course had to pay for my attorneys prep and appearance for yet another unncessary appearance due to her. All present were totally disgusted and were in agreement that she should be terminated. In august, regardless of her physical health or whether she appears, she will be terminated and H. will be cleared for adoption. We will have our Foster license by the end of July and he will be made a VERY short term ward of the State ( daughters 14 day appeal period), placed in our home so that the foster/adoption agency will be able to apply for the adoption subsidy. He will not ever qualify for the adoption tax rebate, but at least he will have medical subsidy and possibly some cash subsidy until he is 18. Of course that will be reduced by the amount of social security he is elegible for, but, at least he will have medical.
