Grandparents Raising Children Support Group
This community is dedicated to grandparents who are the primary caregivers of their grandchildren. In cases where the parents are not willing or able to provide adequate care for their children, grandparents may take on the role of primary caregivers. Join the support group to find support, share your experience, and get advice from other members.
But they should have some thing to assist you----- HEAD START POC and some states have Federal Childcare and Development Grants.
But
To be eligible for child care benefits, families receiving CalWORKS aid must also be in one of the following situations:
1. They are attending a county welfare department-approved education or training program
2. They are working.
3. They are teens participating in Cal-Learn;
4. They choose to refuse a cash aid payment and accept diversion services; or
5. They have been receiving cash assistance and have transitioned off, but need child care to retain employment.
To be considered for the program, you must be a U.S. citizen or meet residency requirements, be a California resident, and not be a fleeing felon. You also have to have all of your children under six years old immunized, and children below the age of 16 must be attending school regularly. For CalWORKs, your family must have a deprived child. A child is considered deprived if they have at least one parent who is dead, disabled, continuously absent, in jail, or unemployed. Your family must also meet resource and income requirements. To see the table with the specific resource and income requirements, click here.
If you would like more information or would like to apply for this program, you will need to visit your local county welfare office. You will need to fill out a form and submit for approval. If basic eligibility requirements are met, you will be contacted by an eligibility specialist who will schedule an appointment with you. At this appointment, you will receive more documents as well as a list of required things such as identification items that you will need to bring at your next appointment which will be an interview to determine acceptance into the program. If you are accepted into the program, you will receive a letter that explains these situations, along with explaining your benefit amount and other program rules.
I can't believe that ever state doesn't have some kind of programs to assist people that are put in the position that we are.
So, I got home and looked online and found a program that had a list of home daycare and found a good place that had room for a 4mth old. I then found out that I do need to be on the calworks program. I didn't find this out until late in the day. I emailed the SW to find out if he has me setup in the calworks program so I make arrangements. I am confused why he didn't tell me I was or wasn't able to get on this program. I know that he has to know this program...my husband thinks it is because they want us to use our money for childcare or they just want us to give the baby us so it is easier for him since we live very far from his office.
Now it looks like I will have to either use our money for childcare or I will have to drive and get my mom which is 3 hrs away to stay with us until I have arrangements setup.

But when you get assistance from the state they will go after parents for child support. So that they can repay the state what they have given to you to assist in raising their child. I live with my boyfriend and they don't take his income into consideration b/c he isn't related. But I was told by the SW(from the Welfare office) that they don't take my income into consideration b/c gs isn't my bio child.
I hope that any of this helps. Keep us posted.
