Grandparents Raising Children Support Group
This community is dedicated to grandparents who are the primary caregivers of their grandchildren. In cases where the parents are not willing or able to provide adequate care for their children, grandparents may take on the role of primary caregivers. Join the support group to find support, share your experience, and get advice from other members.
I don't want to keep the babies away from the maternal side of the family, but with some of other member lifestyles, they are better off with me and in a safer environment.
If it was just with the grandmother, she and I could work this out, but she does have other family members creating issues.
The half siblings will go to their father, so all four children would not be together. I would even take the half siblings if I had the legal right to.
I did get a call from the maternal grandma today and suggested we have shared custody , six months with me, six months with her. I told her we will need to let the court decide. The phone call to me at the beginning was a bit tense from her, but I kept calm as we need to keep as much peace as we can.
I don't want a fight and she will always be in the babies lives.
Family is important to me.
This is a parent's worse nightmare. Losing our children and their babies orphaned.
I understand that this group doesn't know me well yet, so there will be questions to be objective.
I hope the other family will see reason and not contest your request for custody of the two youngest. Keep us posted!
I have adopted 2 of my grandchildren after having custody for many years.
My prayers that God brings you comfort and strength.
I wish this would be a clear cut case and I would win and I would give visitation as family is important.
I know the court will look at the two older kids as well. This is where it will be complicated as they were not my son's children.
Who I really feel bad for is the older daughters as I know this is very hard on them. I would love to hug then and have them live with me as well as I love them as much as I do my bio grandbabies, but I know that I don't have claim on them.
I should have taken the babies the first day of when my son and his girlfriend passed, but the maternal grandma needed the babies, and as more days went past, they became more possessive and they know how to play the system.
I am relying on the court and my attorney. I am very nice and remaining nice and causing least resistance. The attorney knows what she is doing, so I need to go with that.
But, I am so scared of not getting temp custody, then permanent. My husband and I are willing to adopt down the road.
I haven't had time alone with the babies to just hold them in my arms and mourn the loss of my son. Less resistance was to just see them at the residences of the maternal grandma's new home with her son and his family. She moved in with her son the first day of the accident. There will be 8-9 people in the home.
Where there is only my husband and I with three bedrooms.
So hard to just mourn for my son, as I need to look out for my grandbabies.
