My favorite Christmas music

I have very eclectic tastes when it comes to Christmas music. Im not an Andy Williams kind of listener

My favorite music is from the 16th Century and earlier, and I often say if it isnt Renaissance, it isnt Christmas.

Anyway, I thought Id share my four favorite pieces with all of you every time I hear them I get chills, and can imagine the pomp and circumstance of an Elizabethan Christmas.

Thank you Sara! My youngest daughters orchestra/band performed similar music this year at their winter concert and it was amazing. I saw your other post about Pinky being high and now very unpleasant - I am so sorry. Mine can act like that but she is sober just a personality disorder or something. You give such good advice to all of us and I really value your opinions, you have given up so much for the sake of the gks. If no one else tells you - you are an amazing woman and deserve to have a peaceful holiday!! I will be praying for peace in your house and blessings for you.

Thanks so much, Mystery! I've long wanted to form a madrigal group to go caroling on Christmas Eve. I always thought it would be treat -- totally different from singing traditional carols :-)

Even our tree is decorated in semi-Renaissance fashion. Well, a cross between Renaissance and Victorian, anyway. LOL

Pinky seems to be straight today, but she's still in a snit. Even though my husband should have waited, she has to expect that sort of comment -- she's been this way for more than 15 years!

The third was breathtaking! But my favorite was the fourth. I have long been a fan of Gregorian Chant music, which this is very similar. Thank you for the lovely links! :)

I'm glad you enjoyed them! "Gaudete" is also my favorite of the four, with "Est is Ein Ros" coming in second.

Steeleye Span was and is one of my favorite groups - old English and Celtic music, of course :-) and I think their version is one of the best. Their voices are SO haunting, aren't they?

Getting a group together for caroling is a great idea. You can start teaching your own kids this music now & they'll be ready by next year to go with you! These things take time, so get an early start!!! Maybe put up some sort of info on the local library board asking for people who would be interested in participating to contact you?? Sounds like a challenge!!
