"It's a good thing I am trying to be a good Christian", I told my husband on the phone today. My self centered, narcissistic daughter called me today. She asked me what I was up to and I said, "Oh nothing, just sitting here at my computer, what's up." (isn't it ironic that we know when the bio's call they want something) She asked me what we were doing this weekend and I said, "I don't know, why what's up (again)?"
She tells me that she and her husband, wanted to go to Zombie Fest in Austin and they can't take the lil one and wanted me to babysit for the weekend. I just sat there, stunned and unable. I was finally able to tell her, I didn't know what was going on this weekend and that she needed to know that I have been sick for 5 weeks, my husband has it AND our room mate has the bug now too. Her response was "that's ok, (baby's name) has the sniffles." I told her that I would talk with hubby and find out what we had going on this weekend as we try to get the kids out of the house as often as we can on the weekends. I told her to call me back later.
So after hanging up with her, I could start to feel my blood boil so called hubby to talk it out with him. I told him what she said and then told him that I didn't think it was a good idea for many obvious reasons, but the main one being... she can't seem to drag her butt over here to see her other 2 kids we are raising but on the holiday's and a few days in between that and she wants to go away for the weekend? If they can go away for the weekend, then why can't she at least come see her other 2 kids instead of going away. I told him too, that she never seems to have the money to support the 2 we are raising, but they can come and go as they want and go out of town which is going to cost money as well. Hmmm priorities straight much? Hmmm. THEN I told him, on top of that, the baby is sick and there is no way I am subjecting our 2 gc's to that because next week they have holiday activities coming up and they are excited for them to happen. Santa is even flying in to the school via a helicopter and they get so stinking excited....
I told hubby much much more and again reiterated the fact that it's a good thing I am trying to be a good Christian so I don't go off on her. So, she calls back a few hours later and I told her the truth in that I couldn't watch her this weekend because people are sick and she even said the baby was sick. She then decides to tell me, "well her sniffles are from cutting teeth." She didn't like the fact that I said no, but ummmm oh well, se la vie. We will see what kind of tantrum she throws this time....
I'm sure I am forgetting something so I will update as it happens.

It's not neccessarily unchristian if you go off on her...they way you go about it can be unchristian but a little exhortation given in love (and a strong hand) can be the exact right course.
Someone on here once told me to tend the garden in front of me. I choose to do just that but felt guilty. Then my other daughter said - Mom when was the last time SHE helped you? No more guilt for this girl, usually :)
