Grandparents Raising Children Support Group
This community is dedicated to grandparents who are the primary caregivers of their grandchildren. In cases where the parents are not willing or able to provide adequate care for their children, grandparents may take on the role of primary caregivers. Join the support group to find support, share your experience, and get advice from other members.

Early Childhood Brain Development & Communication. Trauma
The video is short; at the conference I went to was very inlightening with tools to help these children who were raised by parents who didn't the attachment process.
I was blessed to get funding for this through our local Regional Center and the Parent Autism Group. This conference was for professional however; there were some parents/caregivers, too. They had the latest information on research on 0-3 yr old brains.
Because my gs was in the womb of a schizophrenia mother and was with her until he was 2.5 mths. They spoke even with that little time how damaging it is for these children. They also showed the neurons of children from 0-3 and how important it is to help to connect these with loving acts along with many more ways than I thought of. I know that most of us it comes easy or natural without taking classes...however; in those of us who rescue these children from mothers & fathers (primary caregiver) we all have to do the catch up. They showed us slides that said if the child's neurons don't get connected the brain clips them and they are lost.
So, what I took most from this conference was that I am lucky that I still have a year before the brain starts to clip these unused neurons and I can use the tools I learned along with the therapy he is receiving to connect them for a better chance to grow up with healthy attachment and will have a better chance in his adult life. It is hard to write all that I learned however; I just wanted to share with any grandparents of children 0-3 to seek help to understand how important it is for this age group and there is timelines on helping their brain from the bio's.
I was really inspired by all I learned and It has peaked a greater interest is the top science information on raising a child like my gs. It has strengthened my goals on learning and putting into practice to help him to grow up to be a happy and productive adult.

I would be interested in what you learn at your training. I went to a workshop given by social services about trauma. There is so much more information out there these days. For us grandparents who have these kids that for one reason or another the parents didn't parent them or in some cases abused them; we have to help them to overcome the trauma and damage from their attachment issues. I learned that If these trauma's happen between 0-3 we have our work cut out for us.
